One Happy Firebird Owner

After six months of grueling labor, i successfully converted my grey cloth interior to an all black leather interior.

I owe a tremendous thanks to this board for helping me with all the swaps i have done, without all the knowledge circulating around this board, i would have never even attempted to do the work.

With this board, i learned to:

Install 4th gen seats, install a fourth gen console, install new gauges, how to modify and shave the paint off my gauge needles, how to pull out ALL my interior panels and properly paint them, how to wire in electric seats, and how to replace carpet, and how to replace door panels.

Here is what it looked like before:

and

in progress:

and now:

So all i have left is to buy a chrome steering wheel, fix the auto plate in the console, install the headliner and the dashboard.

Sorry if this is sappy or useless, but im freakin' excited!!!

(oh yea, this is the old exterior)

No, sorry to disappoint you, but the pedals don't light up...

But the gauges do light up, and i like the idigo color it shows because it matches the dot matrix display on the stereo.

I can say that the hardest part, the part that was the most stressful was putting back in the entire dash unit.
That sucked.

I was going to fab in a billet aluminum shift plate, like the kind in a ferrari.... when i put in my new manual tranny.

Also i was seriously considering putting in a 5" or so tv screen in the passenger side dash, and a PS2 under the seat, what do you think?

(and for what its worth, sorry that the pictures are not very dial-up friendly)

Great job on the interior. What process and paint did you use to repaint the interior panels?

Sorry if im a little late replying...

first i took out all the plastic pieces, then i washed them all up, sanded down all the deep grooves, then sprayed all the pieces with a chemical that "opens" the pores of the plastic, then i sprayed several coats of flat black interior paint.

It turned out really nice, but the paint kinda scraped off easily at first, but after its been a month, the paint is acually kinda hard to scrape off.

Little bit of advise on that 4th gen console... make you like 1000x easier and pick up a 5 or 6 speed top insert. Wont have anything else to worry about.

Looks great! Must been a PITA to pull that dash off and put back on... look at all the wires! I could never do that without giving up many times. And where'd you pick up those guages?

I can honestly say that the entire dash assembly was MUCH more fun taking out than it was putting back in!

But after a few curses and like 6 hours, when it all finally was together, i was pleased!

I got the gauges at www.procarparts.com

they glow indiglo green at night (which to some people is wrong, but they match so they work for me)

Oh yea, and i was stupid and i bought a 96' camaro auto console. But after i found out that they are a B!tch to fab in, i was glad because its something new that i can do to make the car look more custom. So in other words, if i can rip up my interior and replace every single piece in it, well then i can fab in a dinky little auto plate...

but then i will be installing a newly rebuilt 5-speed so then i think is it really worth the time doing it then in the first place?

I guess i would do the work to fab in the auto plate if someone was interested in buying the finished 4th gen console when i put in my manual tranny.... just my .02 cents
