Ban Sig Political Propaganda
I searched but did not see this covered anywhere.
What needs to be done to have everyone get rid of the lame political propaganda in their 3rd Gen sigs?
This stuff, no matter the party affiliation, has no place here.

Agreed.
Never talk religion, politics, or sports with your friends (if that's what you are).

Thanks for the responses guys-
General- I think it matters for the same reason we don't talk about how to build a dog house (for example) on this site.
It just doesn't belong here-

Don't know what you could possibly mean...
Sorry, I probably had a tad to do with this whole shlep. The above was the first one to appear on the board. Was a John 'Heil' Kerry banner and rather than bitch about it, I tried to be funny. Instead of getting the point everyone seems to have jumped on the bandwagon. They don't really bother me though, just proves Einstein correct in this regard...

Yeah, the Ross Perot banner is pretty funy (and obviously so). It's just that with the currenty election I've found that *some* folks just can't help themselves and launch right into Mr. Jackass Republican man or Mr. Pretentious Democrat Shrew. Screw that. I deal with that garbage at work.
Spare the rhetoric here. I beg you!

Mods, any comments or action planned?
My magic 8-ball says this will only get worse as November approaches.

I agree with swerve, considering anything supporting Bush causes instant rage in me I would like to not see it here since Camaros are soothing to my soul. Not showing sigs is not an option since what people have done to their cars sometimes affects the answer to a question you may give in a post. Politcal sigs should be considerd off topic.
as long as sig conforms to the rules it doesn't matter what the content is. the intention is for it to remain thirdgen f body related but it isn't a rule. i don't see where it matters as long as it conforms to the rules. i'd be more concerned about long sigs and sigs used in every reply.

Could you point me to the rules area? I recall seeing them briefly when I originally signed up but cannot find them now- even after a search.

I knew I remembered reading this stuff somewhere, just took me a while to find it. Hopefully everyone can find it quicker than I did!
Anyway, it seems there are a few specific points in the rules that apply to the topic of political images/text in sigs.
The following text comes directly from the ThirdGen.org Board Rules sticky. The reader is encouraged to review the actual sticky thread for themselves- I only post the points that are applicable to my original question.
* "Under the Agree and Objectionable Message clauses, users are also prohibited from:
Posting insulting words, phrases, comments, or anything off-topic."
* "Signature images......Please do not attach images or other files which have no bearing on a thread..........do not attach images of your car in every post."
* "There are options for turning off sig viewing, but members actually like to view your signature so they know a little about your car."
* "Please do not get............ There is a time and a place for everything, and this website has chosen to remain Tech-Only. If you feel the need or desire to discuss off-topic subjects, there are other sites out there for it."
Maybe then, the sig-politicos don't belong here?
Political affiliations have nothing to do with this- I'd be posting the same information if people were advertising vacuum cleaners in their sigs.
Thanks,
S-D

As I now understand, the political slogans, ads and associated garbage is allowed in sigs, contrary to the spirit of the user agreement. Such information is not allowed in the threads themselves, though as proven recently.
Still, an unfortunate compromise on many levels.
It seems there are two ways to do avoid seeing these:
* Ignore user
* Turn off sigs and avatars.
So as not to deprive myself of the sigs that do contain valuable information, I would have to choose the former. Still, another unfortunate side effect of politics.
Still though, the best site for Camaro's bar none.

You have entirely missed the point...
I agree. We come here to talk about the third gen f body. If we want to discuss other topics we can go elsewhere. I think sigs should be held to the same standards and rules as everything else here is.

Well if that's the case can I start bitching about the stupid 'mods' people put in the sigs? Does this mean we will stop allowing people to put links to their businesses in there? That was debated long ago IIRC. Does this mean I can't have my quotes in mine? I've been doing that for over four years!
If something was to be done, the Admins would have done it. Their board not yours, their rules, wants, whims, not yours. Just ignore it like everyone ignored kidrcth. Just ignore it like you ignore stupid posts. Just ignore it... Or put up your own. Get creative and make something different.
NONE OF THE ABOVE!!!

Just another opinion -
Keep topics relevenat.
Signatures, like car photos, paint schemes, and icons by a persons name are somewhat personal and in many cases (but not all) are self expression. As such, I think we should let people have whatever signature they like.
I don't care if the person posting supports a different candidate than I do, so long as their post is interesting or at least semi-relevant, and they don't make a personal attack on me.
(I don't have anything political in my sig, but I once made what I thought was a funny comment and someone was offended, so I thought I should say something on the subject...)

i dont see what the big deal is with some of you guys here. obviously when you see a sig pic with a political reference other than the party you are supporting you know you get the slightest bit "ticked off" so why not just ban the political sig pics and be done with it.
i mean if you have a particular political point of view why not just go out and vote at election time and leave the tech sites to be tech sites and take the politics to political rallies and things of that nature. just my .02 take it or leave it.

a little extreme dont you think? no one is saying that you cant have a voice. i am just saying that the whole bashing this party or that party is dumb. if someone wants a politically related sig just keep it like a bumper sticker either kerry/edwards 2004 or bush/cheney 2004 not anything like the ones that are bashing a party. to me its just offensive when people cant respect that someone else might not like some of the content in these sigs.
and why should i have to turn sig pics off just so i dont have to see that stuff? why dont we just put **** up as sig pics and advertise coke or pepsi? because ITS NOT TECH/THIRD GEN/CAR RELATED DONT HAVE IT ON A TECH SITE

Well, this thread is just a reflection of an argument that has been going on in this country since it's inception. I will give the nod to the freedom of expression group.
I really don't want to see political stuff up here, but I don't think it is my place to try and control what other people think and do. I am not hurt by it in any way. Some are kinda funny (two johns). The problem is that most people only support the freedom of expression when it is in regards to what they agree with, and do not support it when they disagree with what is being said. If you go through life trying to control other people, you will be a very unhappy person.
You can't have it both ways. If you don't like it, express yourself by parodying it or making fun of it in your own sig, or ignore it. The election is very important this year, so you're gonna get a snoot full of it one way or another. After the election, it will all disappear anyway in a few more months.

Just voicing my opinion. Who the hell cares? So what, As long as the sig doesnt contain **** or anything that is "actually" offensive to a majority of the members, where is the harm? We also have member that post advertising for services, products, links to other sites that may not particularly have a place here, but guess what, thats the beauty of this country. Oh and on another not, this board is international, people from all over belong here. You think they guy from australia really cares? Stop thinking about your self and your political views.

I don't find it offensive, more annoying than anything. I'm not here to discuss or read about presidential candidates. I'm here to read about third generation F-Bodies and help others where I can. But either way, I don't care... it'll be gone in a month
