TV Cable Knowledge

I'm feeling a bit lazy & want to give my brain a rest, so I'd like to ask this question to those who are in the know about this. If we asume the correct TV cable adjustment can not be set any tighter than the "correct" adjustment (cable sleeve pulled out tight at WOT), what is the ramification of the TV being set on the loose side? What is the effect on upshifts, downshifts, and the resultant impact on transmission component life? I guess I'm looking for a little auto trans 101.
Thanks, FJK

I'll be interested too, I just installed new 355, 700r4 with transgo reprog kit, corvette servo, .500 booster valve and 3-4 upshift sleeve, had a 600 vs holley and tranny shifted fine, installed new 750 Holley Fri. night and at the track Sat. it wouldn't shift into 3rd without lifting throttle 2 or 3 times. Readjusted TV cable to this boards specs and got a super stiff 1-2 shift (really lit the tires up), then the 2-3 shift would engage when shifted manually at 5000rpm, anything higher 5500-6000rpm and I have to lift gas 2-3 times so it'll engage; then it slips into gear instead of the positive thunk like before. So I've been tightening and loosening TV cable in 1/8" increments with no gains, just a softer 1-2 shift. I'm real discouraged cause the 2-3 shift is so inconsistant and I went out first round (traction issues did'nt help either), just frustrating when I was running neck and neck- then started to pull past my buddies mid 13 car, to have him blow back by cause my tranny would'nt shift. She'll shift right away into 4th though. After I get my slicks and if this is'nt fixed by then, race preped TH350 is goin in, no more headaches!

IHI, adjust the cable correctly and leave it--it's not the source of your problems. Something else is wrong. Loosening the cable simply makes the tranny 'think' the throttle isn't open as far as it really is--making it shift sooner and softer. Eventually it can burn up the tranny.

Putting heavier weights and/or springs on your governor will lower your shift rpm. You can also get a governor for a 305 TBI Camaro. That should make it shift around 5000, you can hold the shifts by manually shifting at a higher rpm.

I should have figured something was funny when the tranny guy said I'll save this TH400 under my bench for ya. I looked at him and said "your supposed to tell me enjoy the new 700" he just laughed and said you'll be back soon. This is just how my mechanical luck goes, I'll dump a ton of money to "do it right the first time" and it always blows up in my face and then I'll spend a ton of more money to REALLY do it right the next time. I've always tried being a little different from the norm in car set-up, like using the 700r4 for street/strip purposes-no wonder nobody around here uses that tranny, especially an 86 case. Like I said though, slicks are getting ordered tonight and I'll call tranny guy and get TH350 parts ordered so I won't have to worry anymore.
