Moderators...

I think it's time to collect some data on moderators' conduct. I see some of them harassing others. I see some helping others. I hope this is the appropriate board to post something like this on but I think it's time admin received some hard data on moderator behavior on this post. The vote is simple. If you have had mostly good experiences from moderators vote for I have had mostly good experiences with moderation" If bad, check the opposed.

Feel free to list your best and worst experiences if necessary but, please state only fact. quotes would be best.

And to TGO, if this is breaking rules, I'm sorry. I don't see how seeing as this is a problem. and I am making a comment and collecting data for a suggestion. But, none-the-less. if I am breaking rules. please educate me as to what I did wrong, and accept my apologies.

my best experience has been with vader. very helpful and polite when I had the infamous surge from my 305 to 350 swap. no matter how many times he has probably seen it, he merely told me exactly what to change, and where to get a chip from. A smooth solid method. very nice.

My worst experiences have been with:
Jprevost, snflupigus and iroc22.
I won't even say why except for that they were ignorant, rude and concieted... ALL OF THEM.

i have to say i havent had any negative encounters with mods that i can remember, however they certainly dont keep the creatons off my back when i certainly didnt deserve thier heckeling! arent they here for that to? something has to be done about these arogant, no-it-all BSers on here. i now browse invisible because i feel like im intruding in thier space. well its not thier space damnit its our space, and we shouldnt be made to put up with thier insults and sarcasm.

personally i say stop dickin with the moderators. let them do they're job. the only reason they say some negative stuff somtimes is because people fail to read stickies highlighting what the boards are about and the conduct on them. we all have a humorous side right? so when they make a sarcastic coment laugh even when its not funny and we will all get along.

Ya know, IMO I say leave it be and stop whining/griping/bitching about this stuff. Not everybody is going to be super polite and act perfect to you. That's life, so get used to it. Besides PM who you got a problem with. IIRC, there's already been a thread like this.

I'm not on this board enough to **** off anyone. (Except Traxion, he was fun. )

The only thing I have noticed with the mods, is some have the attitude "Do a search" and *lock.*

maybe i look at it differant than most but when i reply to a thread asking for help, that's me, just another member here. answering questions has nothing to do with being a moderator. when i enforce the rules of thirdgen.org then i am acting as a moderator and representing thirdgen.org and not myself. i think a lot of you fail to see the seperation, maybe it isn't that way at all and i fail to see the big picture. some of the "nicest" moderators here have other user names so they can say what they really think and feel. you'd be suprised how much work it is, how many stupid pointless PM amd e mails get sent. how many people can't or won't follow a few basic rules, don't bother to read the rules, or break them knowing they're doing so. same thing tends to get posted. people ask questions with out providing basic info or doing any trouble shooting.

Kinda funny that the bitchers have been here less than 6 months.

There is a certain moderator I DO NOT get along with. I've PM'ed him numerous times trying to resolve our issues, but he's always too negative about it. He's always come off as an arrogant bastard.

Part of it's that he's young (which most of them here are). Early to mid 20's I think. I was cocky then also, so I can sort of relate. He thinks because he's in school learning to BECOME an engineer, makes him one.

You know the term "re-inventing the wheel"? Bingo.

After I tried to PM him several times and saw no improvement in his attitude I emailed the administrators. Since then, he's learned to refrain a little from his cocky side. Although part of that could be because I just flat out ignore him now.

Don't get me wrong. He knows a lot, and is usually pretty helpful, but only if it's his way. Which is kind of funny because everything that's "his way" is usually only thing that he THINKS will work.

OK..... end of my rant.

I understand your point ede but, I'm gonna say the same thing to you that my boss said to me when I was 19 and I made store manager of jiffy lube. "this is your job. you were offered the position. you accepted the position fully aware of what was expected of you. If you can't handle it, back down now or risk termination. We are here to serve the public. no matter how nasty they get, no matter how repetative this job becomes, you are the boss now and are in charge of what the employees of this shop do. you are responsible for their conduct. you are responsible for the view of the customer and you will take their feedback into consideration to improve your methods. If you do otherwise, you have failed the company, you have failed me and my decision to promote you, you have failed yourself because you will be fired."

I just remember thinking, "no pressure"

I have had nothing but a pleaseant experince here. I have witnessed others not so pleasant experiences, BUT i must say i try my best to be polite.

If I see a thread turn vindictive or ignorant instead of posting I just let the thread die, maybe that's thy I never had a run in.

I figure this is not my board it's ours. If some people get unruly, rude or are just flat not being nice. I act as if this is our board, and give them no attention. They usually go away. Being a moderator in the past I found that giving them attention and shooting them down gives them what they want (a place to heckle) and they'll forever come back and haunt.

That being said I love these boards.

I do have to thank Vader for the pictures, the thoughts, the time he spends, and the undaunting patience he has with those who need answers.

If you have a problem with a Mod, E-Mail webmaster@thirdgen.org. That's all I can say, then it will be delt with.

BTW, to the Mods. The only time we can see you not being courteous to people is when they break rules on purpose or start with you.

I think there is allot of BS that most do not see, and the mods have to put up with it. Its kind of like taking care of a bunch of children at times. 99% of the time people seem to mind their own business and move on. its the 1% that create the problem and every now and then tho, they get fed up with the attitudes of the natives, and have to start putting thier foot down. Although I must admit sometimes tho I think its just plane ole PMS .

I think where we get into trouble is when someone instigates the Moderator, its kind of like just because they have control they must be screwed with. Like this thread, I do not see what it will eventually solve.

we can't see everything that goes on with the boards....

if you see something wrong, report it to one of the mods. even if it's a lowly regional guy like me.

we're not perfect, but we give it our best effort.

we shouldnt have to be narcs. arent the mods supposed to be aware of whats being said on thier boards. sorry, didnt mean to come off like that in the first line. two fellas inpeticular, if i were to report them, id be doing it everyday. evrything they say and the way they say it really burns me up. and its not personal, i felt that way before i was even a member of TGO. sorry i couldnt get all that out before the previous poster did, but i still feel the same about it.

I think what would help out the mods more than anything is if we were to just let things alone. I think there becomes a shouting match between members and all of a sudden it becomes out of hand. If we were just to blow it off and move on it would solve alot of problems instead of getting bent out of shape because of someones PMS. In short Ignore those folks that create trouble, don't even acknoledge them. LEt them scream and shout.

The point of this was to collect a general opinion about the of the work that the moderators perform. The poll has spoken and if someone would like to lock this thread, I would have no problem. I guess I'm a little paranoid. I tried to see if my opinion was correct by forming a civil thread where this situation could be handled without disturbing the tech boards. This thread has pretty well served it's purpose.

1 thing we are also looking at is taking away the power for Mods to ban or either making it mandatory for them to contact us when banning some1. We wanna know what's going on all the time.

I like Vader and RB83l69, these guys are awsome, very helpful and patient. I like all the other mods too, I hate the BS that people put on here too and they usually are on top of it. The one thing that I cant stand is the "do a search" people, everyone does this not just the mods, why not help the person by showing them to a thread or keeping your mouth shut about it, everyone here knows the search on this site sucks and you end up having to look through 800 threads of BS befroe you find what you are looking for.

My Two Cents

There's a difference between you and I. I don't post bitch sessions ON THE BOARDS!!! I PM people.

If you weren't so frikken ignorant, you'd also read that I now ignore that person AFTER I tried to resolve the issues. He refused to cooperate.

Trust me, you'll now receive the same treatment. And I seriously doubt I'll be the only one.

And I seriously doubt I'll be the only one.
you are one out of 24,700. I tried to re-read that post 4 times and figure out why you were being so edgy. Couldn't figure it out so I said what I said. did you not call me a bitch? I have been here less than 6 mos. scroll up. refresh your memory. I don't know where you come from but, to me... sounds like you called me a bitch along with everyone else that has been here less than 6 mos. that's the fungus I am talking about. people that just come into a board with their mouth open and mind shut spouting off words like "bitchers"

You're right. we are different. I take responsibility for what I say and you merely curse people out on your defensive and then ignore them. I'm fine with that. do ME the favor PLEASE. ignore me.

I can only recall ONE even remotely negative response directed at me from a mod...and that was 'cause I was flat out WRONG...

So IMNSHO...they're doing a pretty good job that most of us either don't have time to do, or don't wanna do.

Looking back on everything that's been said here, I think it's safe to say that there are a couple of Mods that shouldn't be where they are as moderators. I think that perhaps my opinion was based on a few punks in the TBI chat that just like to start things. They probably just happened to all be there at one particular time and made posting hell on a certain thread and for the most part it seems I was wrong and that it appears most mods actually do what they are supposed to do. So this is my apology to all mods except the rotten eggs. Keep doing what you're doing and from now on I think we should take ztwentygr8's advice. He has left a link in this board to the administration where we can all go to file complaints on mods if they become abusive. By reporting the abusive mods, with proof, a history can be formed about bad mods and they can be more accurately weeded out of the system. everyone has to take part in this. Twentygr8 has been very gracious about letting us spat it out in here. We should all thank him. Especially me. Thanx.

EDE, MetallicamaroRS, and the rest of the mods that have posted here, please accept my apologies.

To the a-hole mods that may have watched and not posted or to the mods that caused me to bring it this far, your day is numbered. I will be nothing but respectful to you from now on. And I'll be waiting for you to slip up. Like the bad cops that beat down innocent people, giving good cops a bad name, you are doing the same to the good mods on this site. you will be dealt with. not by me but, I will help to see you get there. And I'm not alone. Maybe i'm not the majority but people like me will still be watching and waiting to report you.

To the members of this site and to the ones that participated in this thread. I apologize if I offended anyone. if you choose to continue with your feelings towards me, it's understandable and you are free to do as you wish but, just remember I tried to apologize.

And to the administration. You should probably have my head for this one. I tried to do this in the most appropriate manner possible and I have failed. I am sorry and I thank you for allowing this madness to be shelled out here. Once and for all. We all know what to do now if we have future problems and I will do my part to do things the right way... if I don't get banned.

Farewell all. I wont be posting on this thread anymore. I suggest the rest of you please, let it die as well.
