Am I "1LE" retarded??

Sorry for the subject (don't want to offend any retards). I'm on my 4th (and final) 3rd gen now and it's a 1LE. I keep seeing auctions on Eb*y for 11.625" (11-5/8") diameter REAR brake rotors. Everthing I've learned and read says a 1LE has the same rear brakes as B4C's and Z28's (not 11.625"). Was there ever a 11.625 option? If not, could I simply fab up a rear bracket for the caliper to accomodate a 11.625 rotor? Do a 1LE search on Eb*y and see the $50 USD pair of REAR rotors I'm talking about.

I believe I'm correct in saying the 1LE's had the 10.5 rear discs. The 89-92, 11+ PBR discs aren't really 1LE's at all, though many people refer to them as such. Check the following for more info:

1le brake info

you will need new backing plates for the conversion to 12".

as far as brakes go i think ALL 89+ cars recieved the 12" rotors with the aluminum PBR calipers (usualy called 1le brakes). it is posible a prior owner swaped rears to an older disc rear.

EDIT. james we both must have hit the "reply" at the same time. you out drew me. i guess this town aint big enough for the two of us pardner...

Thanks guys. I was scratching my head as why I have a true blue 1LE (completley and extensively looked into) 1LE in my garage but didn't have larger rear rotors like some people/ads were suggesting. I'm not going to bother upgrading then because I'd like to order my Moser 9" soon and I'm hoping to be able to order a Brembo kit here in the near future. Thanks again guys.

IIRC,
From 1982 - 1988 The rear discs were 10.5"D, in 1988 however the rear discs went to the larger 11.75" that your referring to on the 1LE cars, as well they put larger 11.75" discs on the front from a Caprice.

1989 thru 1992 however all 4 wheel disc cars came with the larger 11.75" discs on the rear, and the proportioning valve and the Brake booster was the same for Drums and Disc brakes from 89-92.

The FRONT brakes however were the 10.5" on the front for ALL cars from 1982-1992 EXCEPT the 1LE, TTA, B4C, and B4U cars.

Its been a long time since I have looked up the info, but thats if memory serves.

There was a "brief period" as quoted from the White Book, in 1991, the G92 option didn't come with rear disc brakes with a $287 credit. The reason I know that is I have one. It took more than 10 years to find this info. I always wondered about my rear brakes. Would prefer rear disc but I'll take the car the way it came with rear drum.
