Thirdgen.org decal, anyone interested, idea..??

I was thinking tonight while i was...lets just say busy, but about a thirdgen.org decal, just a small one with the letters only? Do i have to talk to anyone who owns thirdgen about it, i would be willing to go to the local decal shop and get a prototype, prices and colors, what do i have to do to get ok'ed on this and who is interested?
thanks

I'd be interested. I eat breathe and sleep third gen's, might as well advertise the fact. It would allow people to meet people from the boards if they saw them and were talking about there car, which seems to happen way too much for me anyway.

I would clear it with the webmaster. They do not want anyone making profit with the thirdgen.org name.

I tried to get this going about a year ago, my sister runs a vinyl decal business and i could have gotten them done for next to nothing. Your gonna have to permission from the admins, which is no small feat, i tried for 3 months and got no replys. Then i tried to just make them anyhow. They didn't like that very much

Good luck.

Tried that too, the final cost of each sticker was juist enough to break even on matierials. It was only gonna be 4 bucks for 2 1"x8" stickers, and only 11 bucks for a big windshield banner. I dare you to try and find a better deal than that

Owell....

How about I go around and start using your name? Betcha you wouldn't like it much. I'm sure you can make'em, but it doesn't mean you should.

Good intentions I'm sure....but bad idea.

Dude, The whole point of hosting a webpage is to get hits.. hits meaning users who come to the site, click on banners.. make the site money... Letting people put "www.thirdgen.org" on their cars is free advertisement. Free Advertisement = More hits to the site, More Money and more members.. Good deal for the webmaster if you ask me

Try a search, this has been brought up a bunch before. I don't think any were ever made except by people who made 'em for themselves.

I agree with all of you, on one hand yea it would be great to have thirdgen.org stickers, but it would only be right if the guys who owned this site sold them, But if ya made them and didnt make money, just to promote, i think it should be fine, not really any different than telling all your buddies about thirdgen really. Personally if the owners made and sold them, I (and probably hundreds if not a couple thousand) would buy them. It would be a great business, since there are a lot of us who love and always buy a thirdgen just cuz they're the greatest cars ever made( although sometimes a big p.i.a. to work on).

Bottom line - get permission from the site owner, then alot of us would buy them!

Not exactly. The windshield decal you see on my car was made a few years ago, with the blessing of Dirk (the owner of this site if you don't know) and just like always everyone said they wanted them, and would buy them. And as usual most people backed out and left the guy who made them, using his own money, to try and sell them just to break even. I have seen it time after time, people here say they will open their wallets and buy something and then the money never materializes. So, no I doubt very much hundreds would buy them, let alone thousands.

MG86TA-

I totally agree with you!!! - I was just pointing out that WITHOUT permission, it was a bad idea...
...assuming that it was done with permission, I think it would be cool.

I thought that someone was working on designing some T-shirts, liscense plates and stickers for the website to sell already?? I thought they were going to sell the shirts and see how well they sold before they committed to anything else?

All of this has been discussed before with Dirk as stated. And to help you make the right choice. Look at the very bottom of the page. The site name "thirdgen.org" and everything contained within this site is copyright protected. By using any of this without the permission of Dirk is a Federal Offense so unless you want to take a chance of losing everything you lose you own and possibly face prison then don't do it.

Not trying to step on any toes, just wondering?? Um, how can the name www.thirdgen.org be copy righted so that you can't put it on your car? It's like saying I couldn't have a Nike on my back window cause it's illegal. Is it actually illegal to do that? I thought it only meant like I couldn't make something and give it the name thirdgen.org or something like that. This make any sense to anyone?

Under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act the name cannot be used for commercial use, only for personal use.

I think the solution here should be to get thirdgen.org to place an order with you and sell the decals to them. Then they may sell their name and make a profit. Just my $.02...

If it's copyrighted, then you cannot legally do anything like that without the owners permission. The owner could sue you for damages, etc if they were so inclined. Your best be is to be patient and wait for the site owner to get back to you. This isn't something that has to be right now (i.e. no emergency...).

I'm game. Can we get different sizes made though? I already got a car club banner on my windshield and I know a few other guys that got one too. How about like a side window sticker, or I remember awhile back some one was talkin about a license plate bracket.

there are always ways around that.

Dirk is a busy man so give him a break! Don't get mad just keep e-mailing him!Now what is the actual purpose for the sticker??? To get more people on the site or so that we can tell if the other 3rd gens cars on the street belong to 3rd gen???? If it is so more people join the site then that would be a good idea for Dirk to handle marketing those type of stickers. On the otherhand if it is simply to make our cars stand out to other 3rd gen members then you can always go with a similar sticker that doesn't state the web site address---like the words third generation, or a plainly stated sticker that has a big "G" and then the number "3"(G3-standing for generation three)there is just always a way around the problems!!!JMO

i like the idea of decals.
I have decals on the back of my firebird. It use to ay "Fayetteville Firebirds" and has a bird for each generation. When the club died i keept the birds and removed the fayetteville firebird.
I have had many compliments about it. People know its my car cause of the four little birds on the back. In fact an old flame followed me because of the birds on the back. he knew it was my car. Wan't sure until he saw the decals
