yay me.. dual exh. (pt2)

I decided to start a new post since I know not everone has broadband and the other post was starting to get quite a few pics in it.

I'll start from the end of the last post by saying thanks for the compliments guys.

CheezX.. I do plan on putting an H-pipe just under the rear of the trans.. I haven't decided exactly where and I doubt it will matter exactly where.. I just don't want it right off the bends is about all I can tell you (very sceintific, I know )

1bad91z.. I plan on making my mufflers using galvanized 14ga metal, perforated tubes and some stainless steel wool or fiberglass. Basically, I'll be making dynomax bullets for around $10 for the pair (hey.. I'm poor.. ). I had mild success with a single 3" one I made placed where the cat would be and about 1.5' of 3" off that on my old exhaust (Edelbrock). It had an ultra bassy idle & low rpm tone but, was too loud for my liking at w.o.t. (basically sounded like open exhaust with a touch more bass). Fortunatly too, there are not emissions around here so I don't have to worry about cats. either.

I mustered up some energy & did a little more on the turd tonight but ran into problems nothing tube to make the 'H' part (broke the saw blade ). A 2½" hole saw & a drill press would be ideal but.. poor.. ya know. Anyways... here's the moment you've been at the edge of your seat for... .....

(ignore the fact I forgot to put wd40 on the tubing before I pawed it up... )

Looks good, I want to hear some sound clips when you're done with it.

Looks good deadbird!! Hats off to you! Trust me, I know what it's like to be broke and in the middle of building a race car, so I feel your pain. It's pretty cool that you're doing it all yourself. The only things I sub out are tranny rebuilds, exhaust work (only because I dont have a pipe bender and welding machine), and block machine work. The rest I build, fix, or fabricate.

You may want to take the exhaust down, clean it, and spray it with Duplicolor 1,500 degree aluminum colored exhaust paint. It has ceramic in it and has held up to my friends long tube headers with out bubbling up or rusting through!! I sprayed my old flow master with that stuff, and it's still looking nice.

Cant wait to see pics of the mufflers / tips, and sound clips!
Good Luck!

kfoley (and others).. if ever I get this done (between work, work & f'n off) I'll see what I can do about getting a sound clip.. as of right now I have no way of recording. That can be changed eventually though..

gta324... I'm not too shure where a good place for converters would be on a dual setup on these cars w/o doing som real metal work. It might be feasible to run them w/a 5-speed but I suppose tht would depend on the cat size.

1bad91z... I plan on washing all the tubing off with Oxisolve after I'm done welding it all up so the pipe is zinc coated for a small extra barrier of rust protection.
I have absolutly no idea what I'm going to do about the tips but, I guess something will come to mind when I get to that point... maybe something chrome & 5" :sillylol:

Oh yea.. this is how close the left (drivers) side tubing is to the torque arm... (keep in mind the rear suspension is fully off the ground).. there is about 1/8" inbetween the tube & the arm...

I'm still working on it slowly. I got the tubing welded up & the H-pipe made as of earlier today and the pass side pipe cleaned/zinc coated with Oxisolve just a little while ago...

I got the tubing fitted over the rear but.. I'm out of angle pieces now (since 2 were smashed before I got them). I did drive the car around the block with it open at the rear and geez it it loud.. nearly as loud (maybe just as loud) with that much pipe on as my edelbrock headers alone were ... I'm starting to question the straight flow muffler idea alot for toning/quieting it down any at all now... Guess I'll find out soon enough, after I order a few more angle pieces, how loud this is going to stay..
