GM GOODWRENCH 350...Good or Bad

I'm just trying to get some info on the goodwrench 350's. My buddy in a 85 Iroc orig carbed just put one about 6-9 mo ago and he likes and everything but when I took him for a ride it my car he said I would deffinatly kill him in a race and I scared the sh*t out of him when i took him for a ride..

So we raced and I killed him by atleast 1-1.5 car lenths, what's up with that? The only thing I know about his car that it is crtae goodwrench 350 and don't know anything about his cam, he has stock gears and don't know anything about his mods either..So what power are they suppose to produce ect?

My mods in sig

that should work, as you can see the motor isnt exactly racing criteria out of the box lol

I really coulnd't tell ya b/c I did one run at the track with the old trans and did a 14.8 @92.17 but I never hit drive...I shifted manually(I have an auto) through the gears and never got it into drive...(later found out I fried my d and od gears)So in first and second those are my times but I would say at least low 14's somewhere with the the new trans

The Goodwrench motors are only rated at 250 HP. If you check out my site you will see that I have some pretty nasty mods but 13.90's out of a service replacement motor isn't bad at all.

I've got the that motor. You're lookin at mid 15s with exhaust. The cam in it is horrible, and the heads have low compressioon. Other than that seems like a good deal.

Here are my GTech times
with 2:73s stock cat-back, and slipping tranny 15.41
with 3:73 posi, hooker cat-back, slipping tranny 15.32

with new mods in my sig, cam/intake, well let's just say something is out of tune bad.

Neivn has a 330hp/350 crate motor. and i know this for a fact: he will put 2 or more cars on you. Mainly, just becuase of the gears and the fact that your car is mostly stock.

And i rode with you 3 times down the track....you ran 14.8 all night. but with that tranny and stall, i could see 14.4 @96-97mph at best. gotta get some power to make a tranny perform-----time for some heads....or juice!

Personally I dont' see a new tranny giving you a full second off your 1/4 time.....if it did I think everybody would be buying new transmissions instead of NOS

na no juice, but nevin has the deluxe ho motor..I believe those are the stats for the motor 330hp, but give it time, i will be nevin with minor mods or come close(doesn't count but still) and you'll see what my stock one will do compared to his "crate" 350...Glad to see you finally joined up Nevin and I have been waiting for you to come down, so make it soon and we'll see where I stand against you

it's a pretty strong engine when new heads and cam are on. stock, i ran a 14.9 with tes headers, and flows, 3:73's and a t-5. Now, it's a really strong motor with what i have in it now. i haven't got a chance to run it yet, even though i think it's deep into 13's, considering i beat a 96z by like 5 or 6 car lengths

we say "NOS" becasue we dont wanna write out "nitrous" every single time.

and stylin': you need a full second to compaire with him and about 11+ mph in the 1/4. If your looking for a decent race, we can arange someting with out cousin, Japper, hes about your time range (14.7 was his best, but now he has top end with gt-40 intake). but im telling you-----get gears.....they are the most "bang for your buck" difference! they will make that stall converter work perfectly!

Isn't N20 what dentist use to knock you out. I wonder if anyone has ever had a N20 leek and passed out while driving.

NOS is a ***** term. N20 if you are feeling lazy typing, Nitrous if you are talking to someone.

As far as the engine goes, and not nitrous, I was planning on buying the Goodwrench 350 longblock, World Products S/R Torquer heads, then find a cam. That way I wouldn't wast money on the heads and cam that will be replaced anyways.

As far as the cam, I was looking at the Comp Cams XE262 (218/224 @.50 duration) but if the XE274 (230/236 @.50) works that well I might consider stepping up to that big of a cam.

By doing that, there is no need to worry about purchasing a vortech bolt pattern intake as well, saving money.

Questions and comments appreciated,
Jesse

Why not get the 268XE, it's a great in between cam. From the above mentioned, there's no reason to get a 262 for a 350.

the XE 268 cam, what are the specs on that cam? how would it fare with AFR 190s? how about with 1.6 rockers---wouldnt that make the lift of the XE274 cam?

yes NOS is a company, everbody knows that, its the idiots that use a company's initials to describe Nitrous that bother me.
*****:
My car feels really fast with the NOS i just added
Direct Translation:
My car feels really fast with the Nitrous Oxide Systems i just added
The right way to say it:

*****:

*****:
He runs a 75 shot of nos.
Translation:
He runs a 75 shot of nitrous oxide systems.
The right way to say it:

Lesson learned: NOS is a company damnit not an abbreviation for nitrous.

in my opinion it is like any other pioneering brand. We call it by the original manufacturer. Sounds kinds funny to those uneducated but it OK by me.

ex.

windex - glass cleaner
crecent wrench - adjustable wrench
formica - plastic laminate
channel locks
skill saw
dremel tool
etc.

Sorry dude but I swear you must search for the keyword NOS and then bash people for using it. Ive seen you post that about 50 times in any and every thread that NOS is mentioned.

NOS is a very acceptable term and everyone know what they mean.

But you seam to have some pent up agression about the word NOS.

You don't happen to own stock in some other brand of NOS company???

Actually, I don't mention that much, there are others that do way more than I, check out the Str Race board. People even post pics from TFTF saying It's called Nitrous Moron. So I thought I was nice about it.

That's impossible, since you can't have another NOS company.

so it make us sound like a ***** if we say NOS, so does it mean if we say we have SFC's LCA's ect we are still talkin the ***** lingo? The way I see it is NOS is an appropriate abbrev for Nitrous Oxide Systems, so I guess I would be considered talking the ***** lingo since I say I have a 5.7 TPI which I guess I should be saying tuned port injection instead, right?

MARK IS CORRECT
NOS (or NAWS) does NOT mean nitrous, it means nitrous oxide system.
nitrous=nitrous. the need to call nitrous "NAWS" stems from the movie fast and the furious. :lala: :lala: :lala:

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
my *** i hope you dont reproduce.

SFC= Sub frame connector - an actual part
LCA= Lower controller arm - an actual part
TPI= Tuned port injection - an actual part

The comparison would be you calling every form of fuel injection TPI because it is "easier to say", or "a lot of people have it".

You wanna dissect what you just said. NOS is a brand, it is like calling every sports car a Camaro. Your last sentense, spelled out would read:
You don't happen to own stock in some other brand of Nitrous Oxide Systems company???

Now tell me who isn't making sense...

I gotta side with Mark on this one. I find the term "NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWSSSSSSSSSSSS" to be extremely annoying coming from anyone's mouth-***** or not. I guess because mostly it's tossed around by people who know little to nothing about what they are speaking of. And this goes for just as many domestic drivers so don't think I'm picking on import drivers alone when I say that. First of all most people think that NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWSSSSS" is some kind of rocket fuel like hydrazine or something. Of course all of us well informed thirdgen members know that this simply isn't true. I once attempted to explain this to a kid at my school (Drove a POS Chevelle that should have been sent to the crusher for humane euthanasia). When I told him that all nitrous oxide does is provide an extra molecule of oxygen for every given cylinder charge he looked me like I had two heads.

Anyway, I refer to nitrous oxide as such, and whenever possible I include the name of the system (Nitrous Oxide Systems, Zex, Edelbrock, Nitrous Works, etc...) being referred to. I find it helps a third party to distinguish you (the person who actually knows their $hit) from the other guy (the person who is full of $hit). This is all besides the fact that the phonetic pronunciation of "NOS" just grates on your ears! It's irritating!

Later,

Matthew
