Question about x-pipe distance from collectors
Question about x-pipe distance from collectors
Ok, I have read that you should put the x pipe about the same distance from the collector as the collecter is from the head(primary length). I was wondering, is this how far it is from where they first merge into the collector or till the end of the collector? If it is the end of the collector and you use collector extensions, should it be farther away? I plan on doing this soon, and doubt this will make a big difference but would like to optimise it as well as possible.

Hey Momar.
I was reading a book by David Vizard and he makes no mention of distance from the collectors. He concentrates more on the diameter and length of the balance pipe. Obviously you don't need to worry about length since you're using an X-pipe, but just so you know for future refference...... the length doesn't matter. He tested from 18" to 72" and saw no difference on the same motor.
As far as diameter goes, you should stay at least as big as the pipes which are being used, if not slightly larger. Like 2.5" on 2.25" pipes, or 2.75" on 2.5" pipes. Overall though the same size is fine. Just make sure it's not smaller.
If you would like to read this awesome book it's title is "How to Build Max Performance Chevy Small Blocks on a Budget"
You can find it at Barnes & Noble. If they don't have it they can order it. That's where I got mine.
