T-5 questions
Are there any differences in the V-6 and V-8 model, strength, gears, bolting it up to a V-8. If you need more info ask and ill answer, thanks
Kevin

Yeah, the V6 uses a 14 spline input shaft and the bellhousing is different but it can be replaced with a V8 one.
Also, MOST V6 T5's came with a 4:1 first gear whereas most V8 T5's had first gear around 3:1.

what about the clutch, can you use a 305 one or do you have to use a v-6 clutch?

its not as strong as a V8 T5, BUT you can order a clutch that fits from McLeod OR Summit
ask Summit for the S10 SBC swap T5 clutch
or BETTER yet, order a 14 spline 10 inch clutch disc from McLeod
either way its about $100 which is the cost of a decent clutch anyways

I have the V-6 T-5 bolted to my 305 and use the V-6 clutch. I haven't had any problems with it slipping, and I have been very hard on it a few times. I will be replacing it with a McLeod when it wears out though.

I was told by a couple of people that other than the input shaft that the T-5 from the V-6 and the V-8 are the same. Either way I plan to upgrade the clutch when this one wears out. Now, if/when the T-5 breaks I don't plan on buying another one. It'll be time for an upgrade

BTW the inputshaft of the V8 wont fit in V6 tranny because teeth of inputshaft gear(V8) are bigger than the hole on V6 housing

I forgot about the different gear ratios
but i think you know what I meant. Does anyone know anything about the Tremec TKO? That is another option I'm looking into if the T-56 isn't feasable at the time.

The non-WC cases are exactly the same for V6 and V8. The input shaft won't fit because the diameter of the 'gear' is different...the V8 piece bieng larger.
I'm using my 83 SC's original V6 case with all the 84 Z28's V8 internals stuffed into it, reasoning that the V6 case hadn't seen the amount of abuse the V8 case had, and hadn't 'stretched'. 2½ years now with no problems...

in answer to the iron duke question, yes they came with t-5's behind them, you could technically use any gm t-5 with the proper clutch set up, for minimum stress and trouble use a v6 or 4cyl t5 they have a 14 spline input shaft.
as far as reliability with the 4 banger and v6 trannies goes, i ain't havin no trouble but i got no traction either, hense the slow time listed in sig. i chirped 4th gear for cryin out loud,
putting the v6 or 4 banger trans on a v8,
get the right bellhousing, then call up mcleod
www.mcleodind.com (i think thats it)
look through their online catalog first its on about page 6-7 you'll find what you need i got the 200 series disk myself just under $90 shipped to my door
