Tell me about your gauge cluster!

Ok,
Here is the deal. Alloy and I are trying to get a business to make some new gauges for us. We are trying to get gauges for the 145 mph speedo.

If you have a 145 speedo in your car from the factory, can you please post what year it is? We really want to get this done. Someone already has the 91-92 clusters done, so we need to work on the earlier years.

Please try to stay on topic. No flames or negative posts. If you have questions or comments, please post. Thanks for your help.

I will start with my car.

1988 Camaro IROC Z. 145 speedo with the 5500 redline.

I have an 86 Sport Coupe that has a 240 kmh speedo and a 5500 rpm redline gauge set that came from Stephen87Iroc's 87 Iroc.

87 iroc 145 mph speedo, 5500 redline tach.

MetalliCamaroRS -is this the same style cluster you have?

Here is a pic of the style cluster we are referring to. We know it fits 87 and 88, and I beleive 86. If you have more info on what years this style cluster fits, please post here.

Also, if you have a spare cluster like this that you can send in for a sample to the company that will be making these, please contact myself or Thomas "88aziroc" Otherwise I'll be looking for one on Ebay to use as a sample.

My 85 and 86 had the same 145mph speedo as my 87, don't know if they were factory though...

I can't commit to buy any as I'm flat broke, but both me and my brother would likely buy a set at some point if they make them...

If anyone is looking for reverse style gauges for the following vehicle models:

1990–1992 Chevy Camaro RS 120 MPH

1990–1992 Chevy Camaro IROC Z-28 140 MPH

Please refer to the following post...

Ray87z,

If you 85 had this style, then is was probably factory. So now we know the same stlye fits 85 to 89. I doubt if it fits an 84. From what I see in the wrecking yards the 84 and earlier were quite different from my 87.

I'm glad to see we have both of these threads on indiglo gauges cross linked to each other now. That way we cover all years of cars.

used to have the stock 90 irocz 145 cluster (sold it, but its practically the same for 91-92)

Now i have a stock 98 z28 cluster in place, 155mph, dunno if im going to keep it or send it in to get the 200mph one, because that would be just plain sweet!

No, they never came onb 1985 Camaros. The 145 mph (or 240 kmh) speedos only started to be installed at the factory late in 1986.

I can confirm that my car is a 1985 Camaro Z28, and only has the 85mph speedo.

My speedo only goes to 115 and the redline begins at 5000 like the one in the pic alloy posted. What do I need to do to use the 145 and make it accurate? Is it an easy thing? I hope so because I would really like to get in on this purchase.

Ok, we have established that the 145 speedo fit 86-87-88-and 89. I'll send that info to the company with the overlays.

Cw racing,

You will have to replace the speedo with a 145 unit. As far as I know, you can't just replace the guage face and have the speedo read correctly.

You might call a speedo shop and ask them. They might have a trick or something they can do to your speedo to re-calibrate it or something like that.

If we go ahead with this, I'll have an extra 145 speedo. I have to buy one to send in, and it will be returned to me after the overlays are done. They have to remove the needles, so the speedo might be off a tick or two but that's easily fixable. I'll put the new overlays on the existing cluster I already have in the car. They told me to install the overlays you do not need to remove the needles, so I'll just do it that way and keep my odometer reading correct.

So if you want the second cluster, sign up and we will see where this goes.

Well here is a link to where the sign up page will be when we get enough people here to commit to buying a set of these. We need ten people to commit here before moving forward on this.

When we get ten people here that will commit to this, I'll send in a cluster and you can go and sign up for a set.

That's right. We need 10 people here to commit before we ask them to list the 86 to 89 camaro.

So, if you want these to go into development, we need 10 people to say "Go" and the company will start to make them. It will take about 3-4 weeks for them to tool up for it, then they will send them out. Thinking about 5 weeks, once we get 10 confirmed orders.

When we get 10, Alloy or myself will get the ball rolling. Then we will get them to put a buy-in spot for our cars.

After that, you will need to go to the website and put in your order. They will ask for your credit card, but it WILL NOT be charged until 10 sign up. That will start the approx. 5 week period for tooling and shipment.

So far we have:

1. 88aziroc
2. alloy
3. CW racing
4. 5SIZ
5. Zed
6. 88Roc350TPI
7. Wootah
8. aaron7
9. cayse
10.

Only one more to go and we can go into development!!!

If you want added to this list, and you are going to order FOR SURE, post or PM alloy or myself.

Just look at his feedback. Dont want to deal with that guy.

Lets face it, the reverse gauges look WAY better, anyway.

Dang! What about us T/A guys?

Mine is an '86 T/A with the 140 speedo, but I forget what it redlines at. Currently supporting OEF, so I can't look!

I would like to get a set and would definately step in for some. (Need to spend this money somewhere else besides this ship )

Any plans for the T/A's?

Hey,

Sorry about my post above. I thought you all were referring to the Indiglo type gauges, not the reverse backlit ones. I'd prefer the reverse ones over the indiglos too so put me down, If they don't get them rolling soon though I'll have to do something else.

Thanks

I haven't been quoted the exact price, but all the other set of reverse ovelays on their site are $69.99. So I don't see why these would be any more expensive than the others.

Jim, look at the thread that is referenced at the top of this one. IIRC there is already someone making reverse style gauges for your car. They look really nice, too. HTH. Thomas

I definitely want a set of these, but I have the 85mph speedo. Can someone point me in the direction of converting my cluster into a 145? All the other gauges are exactly like mine.

CaysE, The only direction to point you is your local wrecking yard, the TGO classifieds, or Ebay. You speedo can't be converted, it needs to be replaced with a 145 speedo.

Casey,

There are about 10 different 145 mph clusters on eBay right now. They are going for about $100. Kinda steep, but you get the whole cluster.

PM alloy and talk to him about the cluster we are going to get for the development. We could probably sell that to you once the gauges are finished. I am not sure if he has someone lined up already or not. We have to send one in, and no one has a spare they want to use. Alloy and I have planned on buying one to send in, but then we would have an extra one. Mine is perfect, so I wont need it. I dont mind pitching in to get it now, as long as someone wants to buy it after.

COME ON GUYS!!! WE ONLY NEED TWO MORE TO GET THIS STARTED!!!

I'll take the extra cluster, if noone else has offered. If I get the 145 cluster, is there anything else I need to change on the car so that it reads correctly?

Hell, preinstall the gauges for me and I'll throw in a little extra.

CaysE,

The cluster has already been spoken for when I get one. But there are lots of them on ebay, and at least two in the TGO classified section. The one lady would sell the one she had for $70.

There is nothing you have to change to make the 145 speedo read correctly on your car other than the speedo itself. The rest of the cluster is the same with the speedo being the only part that is different.

We are in kind of a hurry to get a spare cluster so we can get these started ASAP. But after we get the sample cluster in to the company making these, you will have about 4 weeks to find a cluster for your car before the overlays are ready. 88aziroc said he saw then go for as little as $50 on ebay, so if you bide your time, you might get lucky.

So in the mean time, please sign up for a set of the overlays.

I just pm'd JerseyIrocZ about the overlays. I also just paid $86.36 for a gauge cluster. Hopefully the seller will ship it ASAP.

So now we just need one more person to step up and we can get this show on the road!
