Really wierd blower control problem?
Really wierd blower control problem?
I am having heater blower problems. I have a 1988 GTA with electronic climate control (push button style).
The problem I have is that there is no fan activity what so ever, the fan might be on a REALLY low speed, I can maybe detect some air coming from the vent but it may just be free flowing air through the vents.
This problem started gradually last year as the fan would work perfectly and responding to the push button fan speed control as it should, but then started acting up where the fan would shut off instantly while driving and the lights that light up to indicate what fan speed setting the blower is on went out. The blower would come back on randomly while driving. This problem increased in occurence and now the fan doesn't respond at all to the push button fan control, and the lights that indicate current fan speed setting will not light up at all.
I went out and purchased a new blower motor relay, installed it and then checked to see if the blower worked again. Well the lights that indicate the current fan speed worked again, but the fan didn't come on. 2 days have gone by and now the fan lights went out again and are not coming back on...wierd.
I'm thinking maybe I need a new blower fan resistor?
Can anyone help me out.....

Follow the wiring as it leads away from the blower motor, you will eventually come to a large red wire that runs across under the lip of the cowl from the pass side to the driver's side.... as you follow this wire you will come to a connector of extremely stupid design, that carries battery power to the whole thing..... if you can unplug it without it falling apart, you will find that it is burnt to ashes. Replace it with a pair of BIG yellow slide terminals.
Ok now this is really beginning to bother me.
I replaced the blower relay, the resistor, checked the fuse, pulled the climate control out to see if everything is connected properly, and followed the red wire and removed the crappy connector and spliced the wire together. None of these were the problem. I am out of idea's here folks....please help me out.

Have you tried to hotwire the blower motor to see if it is still good? I would think that would be the first thing to do, after that start checking wiring, relays, fuselinks, resistors etc... Also check to see if you have voltage at the resistors and relay, with the controls set to low, med. 1&2, high.
Let us know how it goes.
