Carb for L69

What would be a good, non computer crap carbureator? I need one easy to tune, and make some power. MPG is important. I want to do some bolt-ons like some exhaust on my high output. A carb would seem to help. If I got one, what would be a good cfm, seeing ppl run 600, when the stock is 650cfm quadrajet four barrel?

Find a non-cc Q-jet.
Excellent mileage potential, if you can keep your foot out of it and the ability to flow enough air for any reasonable street motor.

You could also go with a 600cfm holley 4160. It'll pull down decent gas mileage, and flow plenty when you get on it.

I'll break ranks here and say you've already got the best possible carb for your goals. A non-CC q-jet will not get as good of mileage as the CC one will, assuming both are properly set up. The CC carb has all the power potential that the non-CC carbs have. The cost to convert will blow a lot of gas money. The CC-carb will adjust to other power improvements just fine (the secondaries are tuned exactly the same way a non-CC q-jet secondaries are tuned).

Keep what you've got. Spend your money were it'll do some good.

Gas mileage is a factor, but I do need something good for those "special times"

A Qjet will flow something like 780cfm IIRC. Its more than big enough for a tough street engine.

The CC carb on my L69 works great. Most "carb" problems are really weak ignition or fuel supply.

I agree... thought my carb was running rich, so I changed the cap, rotor and wires, and the problem was 95% fixed (the other 5% was it running a little rich)
