Transmission Mount
Ok, got some questions. This will be based on a 1989 2.8l 5 sp. Transmount has been broken, and having problems locating the "water filled" mount.
I informed them that they can swap to the automatic transimission style mount. the mount would be more available. More expensive up front, but less expensive in the long run, and easier to find.
Can you explain how to do this for the person. show pics if you have them. Direct bolt, etc etc??

89 v6 w/5speed mount problem
hello everyone I am new here and was refered to this forum in hopes to find a solution to my problem. I have a 89 firebird with a 2.8v6 and a 5speed trany. the problem is i broke my mount and was searching for another to replace it and found out that the mount that my car requires is a bit on the exspencive side.. and is a dealers part only.. cost of $316. can you beleave that cr*p!! anyway i have herd of a cross member swap that is possible but need all the spacifics of the swap. I have researched the past messages and found some information but none that is compleet. for all of you that seem to have a hard time excepting the fact that there are a few of us with this problem i am posting a pic of the mount itself that i found on the net so you will know what kind and shape of mount I am talking about that i have on my car. If any of you have one of these laying around in good condition please let me know. I would rather change the whole thing out on a easy bolt on swap if its possible. At least that way if i ever break on again, I wont have to spend so much time looking for one or spending that kind of money. Anyway either way I go to fix this would be fine for now. My bird has been sitting for about a month now looking sad at me that i dont drive her anymore
. But I dont want any dammage do to this mount being broke. When I first noticed it it was like some one took a baseball bat to the bottom of my car each time i shifted so opted to park her till i got her fixed. Any and all replies are welcome. thanks.. John OOPS sory guys I meant to post this as a new thread!!

The v8 guys with manual transmissions use the "automatic transmission" mount.
There's no reason for us v6 guys to use a special mount with our trannies. Fluid-filled my ***; if v8's don't need it with their extra power, why the heck would we?
You might need a new crossmember from a junkyard, that's all... probably $10.
If you don't want to spend the $20 for the Energy Suspension poly one, parts stores sell the normal mount for $7. You could use that as a test-fit. Just tell the idiot at the counter that you have an automatic trans. But-- don't expect that $7 mount to last too long. I went thru three (each one lasted about a year) before moving to the ES one in 1997; and that ES one is still on my car- that's what, 6 years later?
