Some new Ignition ideas
While it still may take some code changes, and hardware adjustments, this is the new ignition set up for Barney.

Soon to follow is a CNP, using conventional coils, and other then a few LEDs, and resistors, should be all GM oem parts.
The trick is just recognizing what's going on. using a dual element crank sensor, with two dissimiliar shutter spacing on the two shutters allows for reading which coil pack to fire. While with a 8cyl it would take more thinking, lots of stuff might already be on the GM part shelves.
Subtitle hint, there are dual sensor GM v8 distributors. While not fast start, it's allow for DIS, and CNP again with mostly GM parts. Just on the v8s you need to make a trigger/ resetable count to eight counter.
Now if you've built an ecm bench you'd know how to trigger an GM ignition module. So in the above, you could then just use junkyard GM ignition modules for running the coil interfaces. Not as pretty or elegant as something an EE might do, but this can be done at home, with a min of muss and fuss.
Not to be attempted without adult supervision, and working with high voltages is extremely dangerous. But, if you want to have the best in igntions, it'll take some work. If you do go with the DIS or CNP then you can play with the dwell numbers and have all the coil saturation you can use up to like 10K RPM on a v8. And no CDIs, or other expensive items, just junkyard stuff.

First off the link just brings you to the forum index.
So this is single fire coil on plug "type" ignition? If so, I'm very interested in how to accomplish this.
