pre-88 supercharger kits.
pre-88 supercharger kits.
i have an 85 camaro with a dead 305 in it. i plan on putting in a basically stock 350, and i was wanting to run a power adder. i would really like to build a turbo setup, but i dont have the time this summer to fab. a system. so i would like to get a supercharger kit for some extra ponies. i cannot find a kit for the pre-88 third gens. why is this? i know that paxton used to make one, but they dont any more. why? if i could get a used pre-88 paxton kit, would it be worth it. i have heard some bad things about the paxton kit, but no real reasons. im sure these questions have been answered at some point in time, but i couldnt find them. any info would be appreciated.

Im glad you brought this up. I wonder why nobody thought of this before
Vortech made a kit too. they decided it was unprofitable and cut it from thier line. I figure eventually no one will make anything for a 3rd gen.

You can run any supercharger kit made for a 88-92 tpi on a pre 88 tpi by converting to a serpentine accesory setup. This is not a tough swap to make, and has advatages other than just this. Do a search on "v-belt to serp*" for more info. A junk yard would be the cheapest way to find one , but gm does still sell the whole serp setup as a kit (pn 12497697 is w/ac delete, 12497698 is w/ac).
**I assumed your new 350 is going to be tpi. If it isn't, than you just need to look into one of the carb applications for a sbc. You might still have to switch to serp, not sure.
***On an after thought, you always could buy the kit in pieces and fab your own mounting bracket, like this guy here.

Procharger should be able to put together a kit for you.
The documentation they sent me said you can use vbelt setups also. The crank pulley has the vbelt grooves as well as the slot for the blower belt.

I have an 87 with a Paxton kit. The compressor is a SN2000 and I am happy with it. I don't have any info on the SN95. As you have already found out, these kits are no longer available. Paradise Wheels has taken over Paxton. They can be found at www.paradisewheelsinc.com. I hope this helps you.
