Tuning w/PVC & w/o

Would it be easier to tune without the PVC system?

The inlet charge wouldn't be contaminated by fumes generated in the crankcase, so I would assume it would make for a more accurate tune.

Plus, isn't the pcv system just a controlled (somewhat) vac leak?

I found during a search the mention of an oil seperator in the pcv system.

What about using an elec vac pump to pull vac on the crankcase continuously? There would be no contamination of the intake charge, plus crankcase vac at WOT to promote ring seal.

Nope, just moves the VE values over a lil at idle, from what I recall.

Yes, and oil has a low octane so a oil vapor seperator is always a good idea.

Don't know of any electric vac pumps that are meant to run 100% of the time. For a race car they seem to work, for a few mins atta time.

Could be of even more benefit with something that has more than normal blowby (ie, and engine that's not real fresh).

Also, may be of a slight benefit for those using a vac ref fpr.

What about the elec vac pumps that were used by GM on the J cars, etc. Did they run continuously or were they switched somehow (map/tps)?

What would be a good source for a oil vapor separator?

While on the subject, do synthetic oils give off less vapor than dino oil?

I run a pcv setup on my car and it really cuts down on oil consumption. I was burning about 3 quarts between changes without it and i'm down to about a quart and a half now. I also plug the breather on the oposite valve cover. This efectivly creates a big vacume on the bottom end. You can actually hear it depressurise when you pull the pcv valve.

I tried plugging the opposite side valve cover.

I would always find the PCV valve blown out of the valve cover after a WOT blast.
