The MDT (Mobile Data Transmitter) was not available during that time, the pilot program started in 1993.
I take that back, even though the program started in 93, I’m sure some B4C's would still be in service and retrofitted with this new device.

our city still has a third gen firebird (pre 91 formula) dare car in full dress with an american flag paint scheem (sp) on it. 20 miles north of St. Louis
this is a dare car though, not a cruiser. but the city does use it extensively. I beleive it was a impounded car, so it isnt as prestigious as a B4c or anything, still kinda cool though

side note, isnt it illegal to restor a police car and drive around in it, the whole impersonating a cop thing, by the way heres anohter b4c cruiser, its claimed someone still drives it with those lights on it, on the site i got it from, notice the dunks donut box on the hood, hahaha thats hilarios, wonder if they put it on the car for the picture for that reason
, also another side note question, since third gens are 2 door, what would the cop have done with a a handcuffed person, its already been established a no one can fit in the back seat, and thats if they want to get in, not when they have hands cuffed behind thier back and are sometimes still struggling wiht the cop, seems very impractical in that respect, but they would have been all set for a high speed persute

wonder how often these b4c's got in high speed chases, they so needed to do a camaro edition of cops "bad boys bad boys, whatcha gonna do whatcha gonna do when the b4c comes for you"
Impersonating a police officer - Yes! you might be ok with decals, and they cant tell you what colors to paint your car, but a light bar(at least with blue or red lights would be a big no no)
Metal cage thingy - The B4C i believe was inteded as a pursuit/traffic enforcement vehicle, they would not be able to haul prisoners in there.
B4C Police Pursuits - There is a vid of a fourth gen Z cop car in a wicked high speed chase with a 15yr old in an M3, it ends in a spectacular high speed spinout of the cop car. It makes the rounds on Police Videos once in a while, but i think you can get it off kazaa too.

There are a few of the 4th gen LS1 Camaro Cops in Monroe NC, I see them around all the time.
And Ive seen that chase video, damn shame that car was drecked.

Not sure in all locals, but the Mayor of Flint took a Buick and put Police on the side of his personal car, it is completly leagal as long as he does not try to pull someone over.
I have seen old cars with all the light bars & equipment at car shows, I am talking from the 50's, 60's & 70's. If you did the car for the purpose of restoring it, and showing it I would not think they would have a hard time with your badging.
If your worried about the light bar, you can get light bars for Volunteer Fire people, depending on your state the color would be differnt, here in MI the bars are all RED, but in Ohio I think they use Blue lights... Convert the lenses over to what color a firefighter would use.
Of course like anything make sure you check with the local Authorites first, and don't trust the receptionist at the front desk... I would also try to get some sort of "permit" so they dont think your trying to pull a fast one (no pun intended).

No it is not illegal. You can have the car done up in full dress as the one in your picture is. It only becomes illegal if you turn the lights on. Once you do that, you have impersonated a police officer and broken the law. As for the pics with the donuts, I beleive it was kind of a joke. It was also early in the morning when that picture was taken. We had a gathering in Tucson, AZ and the owner brought doughnutz for everybody. Cool car though.

well i e-mailed ohio state patrole heres what they said
Good afternoon,
The Chevrolet Camaro's that we used as patrol cars have all been
destroyed. The 4 Camaro's and 2 Pontiac Firebird's were all confiscated
vehicles that became part of our fleet because they were built from
stolen parts. None of the vehicles could be titled or sold so they were
destroyed. None of the vehicles was that reliable so they were used as
show and parade vehicles until the late 90's.
so here you are 86irocket-z

to clarify i never thought there was a cage or criminal transportation in the back of a camaro cruiser, just trying to make the point you all told me
, possibly a reason why they were all retiered and few in the first place,
anywho cops im city dont need anythign else than a victoria, theyd crash them out in no time, i saw 2 cops fly into a intersection, the first skids sideways and pulls a u-turn in the middle of the intersecting, without stoping or turing on his lights/sirens, the second flys through without stoping, turns left skids and nails it into a snow bank on a side walk
, i dont think they need any camaros

I can't begin to descibe the feeling of impending doom I had one morning as I came flying sideways through an intersection in my Camaro, trying to make a light, and seeing a fresh B4C trooper car at the crosslight. I saw him through my side window while putting on my little show, he started laughing!

You'll never believe this
I finally went to get the title transfered over this morning, and i got to meet the guy that wrecked my camaro. His name is derek.
I asked him what he knew about the car.
(long story, but the car was sold to 3 different people before me without getting the title transfered)
He told me that he picked the car up in south carolina, and that is used to be a highway patrol car.
He said that the car originally had a rear disc setup, but the cops blew out the rear-end. (which explains my j65 RPO)
It makes sense to me that is the reason that the body was in such good shape.
Anyways, i'm going to do a carfax report on my car and see what i can find out about this.
There was not an rpo code on the IROC-Z cars that they used for the police force though is there?

Camaros equiped for police service were given RPO "B4C"
They were RS models with Z28 drivetrains.

so i guess thats a no? on one has restored a third gen police car back to service condition with the light bars, police paint and other poilce goodies? Prior to having an RPO code associated with Police services, the police would purchase or use recovered vehicles that were able to outperform most other vehicles. RPO B4C was used starting in 91. IROC-Zs and other performance vehicles were purchased due to their ability and they were just special ordered cars.

Washington 4th gens
Here in washington, the state patrol has a few 4th gen camaros that were drug confiscations. They are under covers and are used for road rage patrols. They fly like bats out of hell. I don't know of any one to escape them. They have unkown drive trains and mods.

My brother had a '92 B4C that's now owned by Philip Purdue on 1LE.net. When he bought it, it had been sloppily painted medium quasar blue metallic over the Texas DPS standard-issue black and white. All law enforcement equipment had been removed from the car, inside and out. Jeff had to fill various holes in the body that mounted the A-pillar spotlight, the light bar wiring, etc.
That was the best running 305 I've ever driven. Too bad he got bitten by the '69 Camaro bug......
I've looked inside one of Fort Worth's (4th Gen) B4C Camaros.....aside form the Police gear up front, about the only thing different from my '99 Z28 is the padded 4 point roll cage.

DARE Car
When I was in high school the local cops had a Dare thir gen camaro. It was a drug repo. This car was all hoped up. I believe it was a Z28. They had lights on the top mounted on a light bar. All black with DARE all over it in red.

I saw one at a show here, it wasnt an actual B4C just a RS that had been confiscated. They made it up to look just like a black interceptor tho all the decals and light bars and used it for DARE I believe, they had apparently stopped using it awhile ago and one of the officers had gotten the car from the unit and was restoring it, looked pretty nice on the outside too, one of those would be fun

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) used to have a third-gen car all done up with original decals that they had at the car shows. I think it ended up on display at the museum in Regina, Saskatchewan, but I never really paid that much attention as to whether the interior had all of the gear in it still. I have posted unsuccesfully on fbodymessageboard.com (a western Canada-based site) to have someone local email me some pics, but no success as yet.....

The only restriction per most states vehicle code state that no other vehicle on the roadway other than vehicles belonging to the state highway patrol or local law enforcement shall have a paint configuration of black fenders, hood and trunk with WHITE doors. In other words, you can't paint any car black and white.
