Hedmans in right hand drive Trans Am - done!
Hi guys and gals,
I've finally done it, I've got headers installed into my Trans Am. The Hedman's needed modifying so they'd fit on the right hand side because of the steering column and it would have been much cheaper in the long run to have got some custom made headers.
I'd thought I'd post some pics here of my install in case there are others out there in the same situation as me. If I had to do it all again, I also would've gone to another exhaust shop (bunch of twits!!), but that's another story.
Tomorrow is race day so I'm looking forward to seeing how much faster the car runs. There has always been something extra beefy about my 305 so hopefully the headers will allow a good deal of potential to get to the ground. If not, I will cry. At least it sounds damn good.
This first pic is the left side of the car and didn't require modifying...

Looks like a good installation. Do you have any specific details on what you had to do? I'm sure there are some people with right-hand drive 3rd gens in other countries who would love the details.

I can only guess on what had to be done on the right hand side by comparing it to what the original header looked like. As you can see from the photo, the tube on cylinder #2 goes over the top of all the over tubes and the tubes for cylinders #4, #6 and #8 appear to have been altered to run a little closer to the engine block. Probably why it would've come out to be cheaper to get custom headers.
I would've loved to have been around when the install went ahead. If anyone wants a pic of any specific part of my installation I'll be happy to help out.
