I think it may be totalled.

I went in to the Home Depot Pro center on 32nd Street & Thomas this afternoon around 2:30pm. I was inside for not more than 15 minutes before coming out to see my Z28 with damn near the whole passenger side tacoed. Of course, nobody in the parking lot, nowbody saw anything, and no cameras anywhere.

My side mirror is nearly sitting on my dashboard.. the passenger window was on the ground held together by tint.. The rear hatch glass is now IN my hatch everywhere... The passenger door is toasted and the turnbuckle where the roof meets the rear quarter is dented about 7 inches into the car. the roof is also torn in the same area.

BTW.. it's not a convertible.

I talked to the insurance company who's sending their adjuster over either tomorrow or Thursday to assess the damage. I just know they're going to end up totaling it. It looks like more than $3000 worth of damage.

Anybody have an idea as to what they'll give me for it?

This really sucks too.. aside from my car looking like it got hit by a train, I just called a detailer friend of mine to come over tomorrow and do a full inside and out detail because I wanted to sell her. This was about an hour before this happenend.

I looked everywhere.. Nothing. I went inside to see if anybody reported anything... Nothing.

The best info I received was from a little Mexican guy that couldn't speak any English other than.. "Big Truck.. Big Truck" and then he had to go.

I feel sick

I'll get some pics tomorrow... I want to see if you guys think it's salvageable.

you can use it for parts if you have a place to store it... id be happy to take those heads off your hands... More than happy... but it all depends on what the adjuster says... that really sucks too, but i moved here to AZ from CA, and ive heard nothing but horror stories about car theft/accidents here... lots and LOTS of uninsured motorists and that sorta thing... sorry to hear about it, i say buy another 3rdgen and fix that up with your current parts but keep me in mind for those heads if you do get to keep it...

I think both cg91ta and I can attest it was most likely a FORD (they have it out for thirdgens, lemme tell you!) Seriously man that really blows! Hopefully things work out for you...

You should look around for any business near buy that might have a camera that could have couth something. You might just luck out. That really sucks though. I use to work at a home depot here in Tucson as a lot attendant and I swear every day somebody’s car would get hit or stolen. All and all don't go to home depot unless you are driving a tank that nobody can steal.

In fact that is where 5SIZ got his camaro stolen from once (with my cds and skate board in side that I just bought. )

obviously it was a ford.

if it was a chevy truck, it would be totaled and sitting 5 ft from it.

lol... im not a "brand specific" fan.. my toys are GM, but ford makes a better truck..

Call the police and file a report (even though AZ cops seem to be useless anymore). Then from there check to see if any body shops have any vehicles matching the paint transferred to your car. Chances are the other car will get found.....eventually. From there proceed to put a blood knot on the drivers forehead!

After leaving the scene yesterday afternoon, I stopped at the car wash on 32nd & Indian School to vacuum some of the powdered glass out being that I now had two permanently open windows; I didn't want glass blowing into my eyes.

There were 4.. FOUR.. cop cars there when I pulled in; all came to look and give condolences. I asked them if I could file some type of report and all were in agreement that being it happened on private property and that there was no suspect info; I was SOL.

So much for that.

I got some pics last night and today. I need a new USB cable for my digi camera so I need to head over to Fry's and pic one up before I can post.

if it looks really bad visually, give a call to the local news stations... they can film it, make alittle news report, and flash a phone number for "if you have any info call..."

a friend of my parents (single working mom) got her house broken into, stuff stolen and house trashed.. like holes in the wall trashed..

they did a piece on the local news and some caller helped them catch the teenagers that did it.. *shrug*

couldnt hurt to ask.. it may be a slow news day.

That really sucks. I have been hit before while I was out of town. Ofcourse the person never stopped or left a note or anything. I feel your pain.

This makes me feel like a vulture but if they total it, I might be interested in the engine. Is it in good shape, runs good?

Talked to the adjuster this morning. They're going to total it. $4200 estimated damage.

I haven't decided if I'm going to buy it back or not. I'm seriously thinking about it though. If I do, You've got 1st dibs at the engine Bill. Engine runs smooth and strong.

the whole front clip and drivers' side are perfect though. All damage to the car was above mid-door height. even the windshield, which was just replaced a month ago, survived the molesting of the rest of her.

If ya buy it back and part it out think about all the nice homes it'll go to apposed to junk heap it'll become! On that note, how do the front seats look?

the usual driver's side tears.. nothing too bad, something that can definitely be fixed at any upholstry shop worth anything . The passenger seat isn't bad. The back seats are OK with the exception of a burn hole in the back of one of the rear seats where it meets the backrest. Other than that, they're fine.

I'd really rather sell the whole motor if I end up keeping it and not have to deal with then parting the engine piece by piece. If I don't sell the motor as a whole in a reasonable amount of time, I'll let you know.

Looked in the site's classifieds and ebay to get an idea. Anywhere from $600 - $750 for engine, wiring harness, and ECM.

Hey guys... I'll know for sure on Monday whether or not I'm going to buy it back from the insurance company. If so, I may have a "parting out party"

Yes, Bill has dibs on the motor. Bruce jumped on it regarding the rear end.

Yes, it came stock w/ 3.23 posi.

dude... that car isn't totaled

we can bring her back... we have the technology (and a ****load of parts)

just seems like a waste to let her go like that....

if not... what you want for the rest of the car after the engine and rear are gone?

What a shame, that is a beautiful car.

And by the way guys, I'm out on the motor. Too much invested in the 305 to give up yet.

Yeah, sucks when something like that happens and due to some STUPID $%^# that thinks these things are worth less than $3000 on the blue books, a lil' scratch and it's totalled. But yeah, that can be fixed. Man that was a beautiful car! But, if it is gonna be totalled, I might want that rear end, and I may really want that hood!!

Daaaaaaaaaaaamn. That sucks. I didn't realize it was that bad. Ouch. Well, hopefully you can get it fixed. If not though, I'll take the interior if you decide to part it out. Hopefully though you decide to keep it and fix it back to perfection.

I thought it may be fixable too. I had a friend of mine that's a body guy check it out. If you can see the back corner of where the passenger door window butts up against the roof; the metal is TORN. He even said that.."Yea, we could probably fix it, but this right here makes me not even want to touch it... way to risky."

I dunno man. I'm going to the insurance office today to get their offer and see what it'll cost me to buy it back. If I buy it back, a few peepz on here are going to get some really nice parts.

That car is so fixable I have fixed **** way worse then that beofore. And if i am not mistaken that rip you talk about is the same dam thing just about every hardtop thirdgen has.

If anything you should just pay to have the quarter panel fixed, and if i remember right i think bruce has a door and rear hatch that are the same color. so you could esaly fix that car back to what is was before 12/7/04 @2.30 p.m.

No-one is saying it can't be fixed, just that it may not be practical to do so.

All 3rd gens eventually develop cracks at the window corner, takes a sheetmetal spot-welded reinforcement. If the car was mine, I'd be at the salvage yards hunting up a door, hatch and power-sawing some rear body metal to replace the impact areas. It looks messy, but doable without a frame machine.

I fixed a car that was way worse then that, I had to pull the hole front end off. everything from the direwall forward. Nobady thought it would ever get put back together. but it did, all for the joy of bring back an iroc that was junked. It was the car that i had wanted sence i was 5 an 88 l98 t-top black iroc-z. This car can be fixed very esaly, If he really cars about it, he will have it fixed.

Uhh....mines gun-metal grey, maybe you're thinking of someone else?

One thing I can say, just getting my front-right fender replaced, then it and about 7-8" of my pass. door painted, ran a bill of $1,597.93. Sure, might be able to do for a lil' cheaper, but if you want that car to look as good as it used to again, it sure as hell ain't gonna be easy. I'm not trying to discurage the effort, just being realistic...

:2cents:
Most DIY 3rd Gen owners can buy a used fender for $50, bolt it on in a couple of hours, paint the door and fender for $100. What's so "realistic" about paying a bodyshop$1,600 to do easy stuff.

Granted, this Camaro has more damage, but other than having a welder with bodywork experience do the welding, the skills required to fix it are not too demanding.

Ok, maybe I said that wrong. What I'm saying, is yeah, used parts can be had cheap, and you could do the feder for about $300, but there is LOTS more than just a fender there. I'd love to see that thing look like it did prior to D-Day, but I know if it was me the time/money/resources just would not solicit restoring the car. But ya know what? It's not me, I'm just throwing in my two cents...

Dude... assessed damage to repair @ $4275

I'm not going to fix it guys. It's not practical for me anymore, considerring my job, I need something to take clients in. Not practical for me in gas bills; I pay around $600 PER MONTH on gas. Mind you, up until 3 weeks ago, I lived in NE Scottsdale and worked the areas West of the 101 (Litchfield, Avondale, Goodyear, Buckeye) and averaging anywhere from 120 - 200 miles per day. Now I'm by 7th and the 101 so I'm shaving about 25 miles round trip.. still alot of miles per month.

So tomorrow morning I will be taking my title to DMV and getting a salvaged one. The insurance company then sends my check and then the parting out starts.
