Well... Ide get a open air cleaner, new washer and coolant jugs, headers, and just do some painting like 86z said. A electric fan would look alot better also with the radiator shroud.

86z, I agree with knightrider... wow.

spdfrk, you may also think of changing out some rubber hoses for steel, braided ones. especially if you clean up and paint those thing.

86z, how long did it take you and what paint did you use? is it high-temp?

I actually like the rubber hoses but i would run the steel braided fuel lines and the braided covers look cheesy to me.

sorry I meant knighrider, he was asking for opinions. I looked at the list in reverse order.

I saw the braided hoses (coolant, fuel, everything), in one of recent magazines I think. By themselves, they would probably stand out too much, kinda like bling, but when your entire engine is clean, they look very sweet.

But if I take out the hood insulation wont the paint on my hood start to blister or chip from engine heat?My engine doesnt run hot but still I imagine the engine to get pretty hot.

Nothing will happen to the paint, thats just an old wives tale. That insulation's only use is sound deadening. From experiance, I ran no insulation on my stock steel hood for about 6 months, then for about another six months (incluing summer ) on my new fiberglass one. Many other people will tell you the same.

1. Convert to 88-92 style serpentine brackets on the front of the engine.

2. Replace the coolant and washer bottles, stock replacements or custom from a different car.

3. Get an electric single or dual fan setup.

4. Buy a decent aluminum intake manifold, clearcoat it and install it with an open element filter.

5. Install a nice set of headers.

6. A nice set of aluminum valve covers.

7. Take everything out and repaint the engine bay.

I used a spray can. I sand blasted most of the parts and the rest that I good not S/B I used sand paper and dremel tool. Still would have liked to paint the A/C compressor but too much work to remove from car.

Yep Hood insulation is only for sound insulation. Many cheaper cars dont have it at all. My pos Aspire doesnt have it and the paint is fine.

Is there a big advantage with serpentine belts besides looks? does it make less drag on the engine?

there is a little less drag, but the biggest thing is less slippage and you will hardly EVER throw a serpentine belt.

you would be amazed at what some armor all could do for those rubber hoses. Other then that, an open element would help alot.

You can remove the hood insulation with no problems, just like everybody else suggested. I did it and nothing has happened to the paint on the inside or outside of the hood (even though it's a Maaco paint job, too ).

Just do what Z28racer suggested, and your engine bay will look great. One more suggestion would be to delete anything that you don't need/use. Just for comparison, here's my 177,000 mile engine bay, and it looks good. All it needs are ceramic-coated headers and paint, and it'll be perfect. It doesn't take a lot of money, either.

I recently pulled off my air cleaner cleaned it up and shot it with some black spray paint worked really well it looks brand new
I also sprayed the plastic peice that covers the hole where the the tpi air cleaner would go
Then I shined up all the plastic with Armor-all Ultra shine
Which worked really well

The top of my engine compartment looks brand new
Now I have to clean the valve covers........fun
