Getting sick of TPI

Im getting fed up with my TPI and im thinking about going carb.

I want a 350 roller but I have a 350 Flat tap block that im going to be using. Could I get some times from the some mild 350-355 Flat-Tappt Carb people. I dont want to leave the
EFI Roller world but i think im fixing to. Can someone savvy me with promises of easier to fix problems and less things to go wrong.

This is 91' GTA LB9.

Just make sure you send the intake, wiring harness, sensors, distributer, and ECM my way.

But seriously you probably just need some good chip work. Especially if you are still running the 305 system.

If You decied to go Carb Get a Good Single Plane Intake Like Weiand Team-G, X-celerator or Edelbrock Victor Jr.
Go to Junk Yard Strip a L98 except Cam and Roller Stuff Go Home (after machine work) and swap parts From the Flat Tappet Motor or

or Get a Roller Cam And Lifters designed to replace a non roller, Cam Button And A Steel Timing Cover with Tab For Roller Button.

Just my opinion.

Will my LB9 heads flow enough for a carb. I think i made my mind up about the TPI.

This is what im thinking. Just a rough draft.

Weiand X-celerator
480"-490" 240* cam flat tap
10:1 cr
lb9 heads w/rr's
600cfm

Whats the difference in all the carbs i see. So many choices. Is there anythign wrong with the Summit Reman Holly 600 4-barr.

Whats the advantage of a elec choke?

To the point, all i want is around 300-350hp @fly and im on a $1500-$2000 budget. Can i get some suggestion. Were not talking trans, convert, exh, and gears.

I want to stick with my 2:73 for at least another 6-8 months and i know thats gonna hurt me on selecting a tq convertor but ill worry about that later. Im just SICK of wires. Im an electrician and have to fool with wire all day, so when i work on my car thats the last thing that i want to do.

My 601s are virtually identical to your 081 tpi heads. They will work good on a 350 especially if you do some porting to them.

Even if you used dished 350 pistons you are going to be over 10:1 compression with the 58 cc 305 heads. Stock 350 pistons with 305 HO heads gave a calculated 10.3:1 on my engine.

You are going to have to grind on the center 4 bolt holes in that intake since your heads have those bolts that stick almost straight up.

You also need an old style vacuum advance HEI with a good advance curve in it.

Keep me in mind when it comes time to get rid of the TPI system.

I plan on doing some porting and a bowl blend with alittle polish and a real good chamber polish.

What are the stock valves on a lb9 head. Will it accept 1.94/1.50 valves. What about 2.02/1.60?

I planned on getting a vac adv. distributor and a MSD coil and 6a box.

What better a vac. adv. or mech. adv. distributor?

Im deleting the a/c and smog. Can i use a one wire alternator?

I would either stay 1.84 or go to 1.94 and unshroud the chamber. Their isn't much room around the chamber with 1.94s much less 2.02.

A one wire alternator would be fine as long as you can get one the will bolt to whatever brackets you are using and has the correct pulley for your belts.

Vacuum advance distributers also have a mechanical or centrifical advance in them.

I wouldn't bother with polishing the chambers too much as I just unshouded the valves on mine.

A comp XE274H makes a great cam for your combination. I had one in a cheaply done 305. It pulled my 1983 G20 to a 14.7 @ 98 with a horrible 2.7 second 60 foot time. It might have gotten close to a 13 second quarter with a 5,000 lbs brick and a 305 had it not been for the tall 3.08 rear and useless P235/75/R15 tires.
