heat shield for plug wires

i installed Edelcrap headers on my car and the plug wires need shielding. They will still be rest against the tube on the pass side even if i use looms. I need a good heat shield that i can wrap around the wires. Anybody have any suggestions. I need heat shield for the wires, not necessarily the boots.

i was thinking of getting THE-14250 (Summit), but i would rather have something that will cover the wires individually

for something temporary, could i use tin foil? Will this mess with the wires? I hear u cant wrap the wires around each other so tinfoil might mess something up...

can i use header wrap for one of the tubes? some ppl say this will make my headers rust, but they are ti-tech coated...

here are some pics that show the Edelcrap design

You can't use the stock routing under the headers?

you need to get some Accells or something similar....that will withstand heat...

I bought the 8.8MM...cut to length...maybe a bit longer to route them the best way...and they work great...never had any problems at all.

the answer is right here.

You can't run them through the headers b/c of the air tubes and the way they are designed, you must run them under (stock routing).

You need to be creative. You can even use zip ties to tie them out of the way of the header.

The factory routing had some small brackets that bolted to the back of the block behind the head and along the side of the block under the head. The wires snapped into them to keep them off of the manifolds (now headers). Those along with as many zip ties as required will do the job nicely. Maybe someone with their wires routed that way can post a pic for you (versus the upcoming 1000 words).

With my SLP headers I use a good set of 8mm wires with 90 deg boots and LT1 90deg metal heat shields. Works for me and the metal shields are avaiable at the Dealer for about $1.50 each. Do a search on this site for pictures.

how do i know if my plug wires are cross firing? How much do the wires have to be seperated? Can i use tinfoil as a heat shield just to get to the shop and back?

You're wires should never be cross-firing unless there's an insulation break. I don't use heat shields, never have. If I'm road racing, then I probably would add some sleeves, but other than that it's not necessary.

I run my wires between the primaries and between the valve cover and the AIR tubes. I use on top of valve cover wire looms. I use 90* boots. I use cut to fit wires.

Sure, since spark plugs wire are uninsulated copper wire.

Spark plug wires have shielding with wound cores to reduce inductive crossfire. There are also wire looms to separate the wires. All you need is a small amount of separation. Get some good wires with thick jacketing for additional separation.

Oh, tin foil...sure. Wrap it around your head while you are at it too. You don't want those aliens picking out the electrical pulses in your brain to power their ships.

I got some nice wire holders for the drivers side, and just ran them myself on the passenger side. Worked great. I had too much to drink tonight, night

Did you look at the LT-1 metal heat shields I mentioned in a previous Post?? Available at the Dealer and a lot easier install plus cheaper.

I have a single one on a wire that is really close to the header (burned the boot without it). It might depend on the outer diameter of your plug boots. I'm running MSD wires and it was a **** to get it on correctly.

Take a scissor to it and use metal clamps to hold it in place.
