Video of my new best 10.09 @ 132 on pump gas. - Prom relation.
Well it my best for the year, was trying to pull a 9.xx - but have some kind of restriction in my N20 system that I built from old parts, only allowing 120 HP or so.
Prom,
Since running pump gas, set timing to 30 degrees after 3200 - still 36 degrees prior to help reach stall.
Used TCC force lock enable output wire to enable spray @ 25 MPH..
Really bumed I could not make this 9 happen but....
Here is vid:

Also would like to add,
Thanks to alot of guys on this board for support through the years with this project...
There were also haters on this board (Now gone) who always tried to downtalk my combo. Well 4 years later my budget build 406 that not only still runs strong, has lived all these years, but beat the times of the hater and has over 8000 street miles under its belt.

I must have missed the hater(s).
And screw them anyway, lol
Damn fine car. And on a 10bolt! I hope my 383 car does half as well.
Hey, how inexpensive is a budget 406, anyway? Just wondering what I'm in for, but then again I'm down to converter and head selection. Maybe the cam depending on the combo....wow, it really never ends.
Just plain awesome. Nice work.

Well during that time I was running 28 degrees total timing along with an intake tube restrictor to keep car @ 11.5, due to lack of roll cage.
So I am just proud to say, now legal the car runs faster than his ever did - but does so in a heavier car and on pump gas.
He has since blown that and another engine. I really mean the guy no disrespect - But that used to pi$$ me off.
Street manners are great honestly - still stock radiator with electric water pump keeps it plenty cool - even on really hot days,
idle quality is great and fairly smooth considering, the only downfall it has, is the converter lock does not work for who knows what reason - been fighting that one for a year and a half.
But the super street fighter is suprisingly tight on the street and responsive even with the 12" lock disk on converter, 3.73s and 28" tall street tire help it on the hwy. Starts fast in any kind of weather and gets pretty good MPG even without the converter locking. There are no dead spots or bogs or even surging - It really does well as a driver. And its hooks well on the street.
The only downfall it may have, is one day at the grocery store I started it, there was an older lady next to me that almost put her hand through the windshield but then started laughing and holding her chest.
I run 20 degrees initial, and it starts rather abruptly and with authority. I always like that

Bought a cast scat crank from EBAY $190, great set of "CAT"
6" rods - they are just like an eagle but 10 grams lighter and just as strong - they were $270 ebay. Bought A set of 8 crane gold rockers from EBAY for $60 - the other 8 are summit brand.
My first naturally asperated 10 second run (2) years ago - priceless

Thanks for the info. I still have heads and such to do, fingers crossed on only having to drop another $3K or so. It's the "or so" that hurts.
Good to see that you're running that fast for this long on affordable parts. You really need to put up more motivational films for those of us in mid-project

Excellent times.
I have a 400ci block that has been sitting around for years that I haven't collected all of the parts for yet. What is the total $ you estimate you have in the engine? I have this big diesel turbo that I got cheap that I think would work on it so I am interested in a rough cost of how much it would be to do the block.
What are you running for head gaskets?

But I think block work ended up being about $700 if I remember correctly. Plate hone, sq deck, line bore, tank 2 times, ect, ect.

There is a member here running them now - cheesx.

If I had to upgrade ANY part of ANY engine it would be the rods. The pistons next, crank, then block last. Example; GM ecotec engine, crank and block (both cast) good for 750+hp... out of a 4 banger
. Cast cranks are usually good to about 750hp in our v8's. So upgrade the rods then pistons, 'cheap' out on the rest
.Most of the expensive high dollar strong stuff is only insurance for when something goes wrong. Example; Cast pistons don't last long with detonation on a high specific engine so the forged pistons would give you more elbow room when tuning.

Busted springs are the worst.
I got my hands on a bad batch once and that was fun.
I can do springs really quick on a TPI in the car though lol.
They werent even cheapies and were tested by myself and engine builder.
Didnt matter lost 2 or 3 and swapped the whole set out and never had another issue.

As for springs, YES, that's top on the list, don't skimp on those with K-moron crapola.
