How did I do?
Hello Fellow TGO Members,
I just put a down payment on an 85 Iroc-Z and was hoping for some feedback on whether I did well. Can anyone spot out anything out of the ordinary, or does everything look and sound ok. I have to fly quite a way to get the car and drive it home but I think I got a great deal. I will list the specs of the car below.
85 IROC-Z, 2.5 COWL HOOD, NEW TIRES ON ORIGINAL IROC 16 INCH RIMS, FOGLIGHTS, 5 SPEED TRANNY NEW CENTER FORCE CLUTCH EVERYTHING TO DO A SWAP, CROSS DRILLED ROTORS NEW, 10 BOLT POSI REAR T-TOPS RED INTERIOR GREAT SEATS, PERFORMANCE SPRINGS, AC DELETE BOX, 350 PERFORMANCE MOTOR WITH 600 MILES ON REBUILD, IT HAS 194 HEADS, EDLEBROCK INTAKE MANIFOLD, HOLLY 650 DOUBLE PUMPER, HEADERS AND FLOWMASTER EXHAUST, DOUBLE ROLLER TIMING CHAIN, HAYDEN ELECTRIC FAN WITH ADJUSTABLE TEMP SWITCH. CAR HAS NEW BLACK PAINT. ALSO HAVE GRANT AND ORIGINAL STEERING WHEEL AND OVERHHEAD CONSOLE NO FLASHLIGHT AND MANY OTHER PARTS INCLUDING HAYDEN ELECTRIC FAN WITH TEMP CONTROL STAT. TAILIGHTS SHOCK TOWER SUPPORT BRACE
That’s the car and I will list a few pics below.
Thanks,
Lawrence

That's a really nice-looking IROC, it will definately turn heads when it rumbles down the blvd during cruise nights! Just a couple of things to be aware of ... the torque of 350's have a habit of tearing-up stock 5-speeds, so if you're planning on flogging it have a spare or two ready to swap. Or upgrade to a Tremec some day. Running through the desert heat or stuck in downtown traffic on a 3-digit-day will make you wish for AC. If the car will be a daily driver, I'd look around for a donor car and install it along with a single-belt serpentine setup. What's the price of the car? Will it have to pass emissions in your area?

I have a 4 banger right now and I would hardly ever floor it. I will use it as a daily driver to school and back which is around 30 miles round trip. I don't have ac right now so I guess I wont miss it. I am paying $1200 and there is no emissions where I live. Will I be ok as far as the 5 speed if I just drive it like a normal car?

Sounds like the car will be a good "fit" for you and your style of driving. You'll notice the 350 engine compartment gets pretty hot during normal driving, the heat will soak into the passenger compartment a bit... I run my '87 at 160 degrees and the '92 at 180 degrees -- the '87 passenger area is definately cooler. The stock 5-speed will be fine if you don't beat on it doing clutch-drops and burn-outs. The IROC will be a huge upgrade to the 4-banger -- you'll love it! What state is it coming from?

Yeah I am in for a BIG change, I will drive it soft though an occasional burn out I will probally do just to feel the power. The car is coming from Maryland and the owner seems like a very sincere guy and has stated any problems to me, which are none besides the headliner but I have one lying around. I cant wait to go pick it up because I have 2 neighbors with Irocs and I always drool when I pass by their houses.

Thanks,
That's the only worry I have, it's a long drive home and hope I don't have any problems. I can't wait to have her in my driveway.
