Need help fixing Dimmer switch and now tilt mechanism..

Has anyone fixed these before? I would think it would be easier to remove the metal around the tilt gears and bright/turn/wiper switch, but I don't think it comes off.

Anyone have any free time this weekend to help me out?

Thanks
-Kevin

Here's the fixit file link for the tilt wheel. Just DL the PDF. I can help this weekend, you buy the transportation!

The dimmer problem is most likely due to wear in the nylon bushing that needs to be adjusted for. The process is well-documented on TGO. You may also opt to install a foot switch like I did on the '92, merely because I like them.

Be warned that taking apart the column and getting it backtogether correctly is very complex, mostly due to all the parts being strange and fitting together in odd ways. Approach it calmly, knowing it will be done in stages over a day or two as frustration builds to the boiling point. Garages want $100-200 to do the job, but patience and valium will see it through...

I don't even see where to remove the cover. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out later.

Hey Kevin,
I have a spare tilt column in my back yard that I will not use. If you need any parts let me know you can have them for basically the shipping.

Lawrence, how hard is it to replace the whole steering column?

It's an easy job. You'll need to switch the ignition key cylinder though.
