The mount is on the rear of the transmission attached to the tranny with two bolts. The mount is then attached to the crossmember with one nut. The poly ones look a bit different than the stock ones but they are pretty simple to install.

Lift the car, support the tranny, remove nut from rubber mount, remove X-member bolts(4), remove X-member, remove bolts (2) from mount to tranny. Installation is reverse. Plan about an hour but it should take less depending on how stuck the bolts are.

Get a ES one from Summit, costs less than from a dealer and it works a lot better.

This weekend I have to change mine for the third time. This time I am going to use the ES one.

BTW: The mounts for autos and manuals are the same. After the swap I used my auto mount on the manual and it worked just fine.

Enjoy!!

Thanks for the info, Dale! Good to know that the poly -does- work for both.

Actually Tom, I am ASSUMING (we all know what that means ) The mount bolt locations are the same on both STOCK mounts. This weekend I will try to bolt the poly one to my 700R4 (still in garage)to make absolutly sure.

Here's a pic, and make sure that you torque the mount down properly, or else you'll think that you broke it again, kinda like I did.

BTW, I did mine without taking the crossmember off, but it was a biznitch. I took off that little thing that my mount sits on, jacked my tranny up as high as I could, and managed to get everything back right.

Oh- didn't see that; I didn't yank my crossmember down, either. I jacked the trans up using a wide piece of wood between the jack and trans pan. (I have the automatic trans.) My poly mount goes right to the crossmember, though... it doesn't go to that slab of metal (white arrow points to it) above the crossmember.

i have a question, after you changed your mount did you experience any harsh vibrations. right now, i took out the old one and welded a piece of steel in that gap a ran a poly mount. now my car vibrates at high rpms(generally 2000 and up). the vibration, right now, seems to be coming from all over the car, but it also seems to be louder in the car. outside there is no difference in sound the car makes and there are no new noises. if anyone has any clue as to what this might be, or how i can fix it i would appreciate any feedback i can get

I think it was a design change of GM. I remember reading somewhere, some time ago, that the center hole in the crossmember would fatigue and crack, leaving the trans mount with nowhere to be bolted. Looks like that extra piece of metal (with the white arrow going to it) might distribute the impact better over the crossmember...?

Next time I'm in a junkyard, I'll have to dive under some cars and check it out. Maybe I can get a "year" comparison going. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't remember my friend's '89 Camaro (the 2.8/2.8 swap) having that piece, either.

I didn't notice any harsh vibrations, but then again, my car vibrates already, so...
