I am almost positive that someone on here has said they don't have one. Plus I have seen an 89 V6 5speed with no smog pump and just a bracket and pulley in it's place. The guys in general tech say ALL cars had them from the factory.

Mine does't have any smog **** what so ever. The OEM CAT did not have any air tubes at all.I replaced the serpentine belt, they gave me one that was to long.I told them I don't have the smog pump. They got a OEM replacement belt with out smog pump.It fit perfect.

I think a lot of it depends on where the car will be sent to be sold.
I have a pully in place where the pump would have been just to keep the belt from rubbing itself after coming off the alt.

Nope, I don't... I don't even see a provision for it on my car... I only have AC, Alt, Water, Crank pulleys's, three belts, and no unused grooves... unless I'm missing something...

Mine has the smog thing in it.. And it's freaking huge! I've heard that removing it and running the belt without it will free up some horsepower...but I'm not doing anything to my car that isn't street legal, so...I'm guessing pulling this sucker is out of the question. Too bad... I could use all the performance I can get.

You MAY loose 1-2 hp with that unit.
I'm not under my hood now. I'll check later.
I have separate belts, not sepintine set up. Mines the 1985 set.
IF ya have it, don't worry, just make sure it spins freely! It is the same effort to spin as an idler arm.

Every car is different, although all cars sold in the US should have a smog pump some dont. This is from the prevoiuis owner. Cars sold in Canada were not given smog eqquiptment until latter 80's so that could be why some have the pulley unit instead of smog pumps. In the case of the no air tube for the cat that would be why.

My car's like Dale's ('86 2.8 auto), without the smog pump.

Nobody makes power pullies for '82-'86 2.8's; unless you happen to have the same pullies as a V8 of the 82-84 era; which I don't think is possible. The serpentine drive started in '87, and you'd need all the pullies. You'd also need the tensioner... which also mounts the alternator, so you need the smaller version of the alternator. (82-84 already has a small alternator, going to the '87 one would be an "upgrade" in amperage.) You'll also need the idler pulley, which takes the place of the air pump. You'd also need the power steering pump pulley; it might be easier to just take the junkyard p/s pump. And finally, you'll need to change to the donor car's a/c compressor, or, skip your a/c compressor completely, because I don't think you can change pullies at all... even with the tools to disassemble the a/c clutch.

Tom,

I'm just going to take off the pump and belt to the pump, since i have seperate belts i don't need something in it place , like another pulley.

According to the GM Parts and Illustration Catalog, no Smog pumps were included in Camaros with automatic transmissions except 82-84 THM200C 3-speed. I don't know about California cars though, since they can always be the exception to the rule. You'll have to find a manual Camaro from the wrecking yard to get the parts. If you need GM part numbers to get from a dealer, I can provide you with them.
