repainting the plastic panals
repainting the plastic panals
Has anyone repainted their interior plastic trim piece? The parts that run along side the interior around the door and by your feet.
I know if you just spray paint them they will peal a scrap done to their original color
Thanks Spindr

To paint that interior polypropylene plastic you need a special adhesion promotor and/or some plastic prep that you put on before the paint. I got some bulldog adhesion promotor at a local auto paint shop and I'm just going to use that with some SEM color on top - maybe clearcoat as well. I have dark blue carpet with gray door panels and crappy light blue plastic so I'm either painting the plastic gray or black I think. Oh and make sure you use something to get the plastic perfectly clean and paint during the promotor's "flash" period.

1. Wipe with tack cloth and wash with warm water
2. wipe down with alchohol
3. spray with SEM plastic prep, wipe with several shop towels
4. Spray with bulldog adhesion promoter
5. spray on paint in thin light coats
the interior's been in for a month and I haven't had any problems. Hope this helps
