Power Lock Motors Mounting
Power Lock Motors Mounting
I'm going to put the locks in my car soon. I looked in a Chilton manual and it showed basically where it is supposed to mount, but in my car I'm having a little problem. I mounted it where the Chilton says then hook it up to the lock mechanism, but when I pull down on what its hooked up to, the interior handle moves open.
Now I'm not an expert on this, but shouldn't lock motors move the lock, not the handle? =P
Any help appreciated. =)

You must have the wrong rod. There is another one in the same area. I would double check.
I'm working on the same project as you but with an 87' bird.
I had no power options in the door, so I did not have the rubber boot between the body of the car and door. Holes for boot were precut in car and door, but had plastic plugs in them. Boots are very easy to remove from a salvage yard firebird if you can find one without front fenders in place.
Actuators are originally riveted in place, but bolts, washers and nuts appear to be an acceptable substitute. Actuators are shared with a bunch of other early-mid 1980's general motors vehicles such as s10, cutlass and regal. Little spring loaded pivoting peice that connects the actuator rod to the door lock linkage appears to be firebird/camaro specific.
I used a dremel to remove hardware from the donor vehicle, but a cold chisel and hammer would probably work.
I had difficulty locating power lock switch panels in decent shape locally. So i took the original knock out panels, drilled 2 holes in each and put in some generic N.O. momentary pushbutton switches from radioshack.
