weird tranny pulsing type feeling.. its not supposed to do this HELP!!!!!!!

when im driving between 35-60 MPH (but at a constant speed), in either 3rd or OD, the car feels like someone is tapping the brake, and holding it for a second or two, and then letting off and repeating over and over again.. its like the torque convertor is locking and unlock every couple of seconds, you can here it in the engine and feel it. but if i hit the gas it accelerates normaly. it usualy only does this when im at a constant speed or accelerating slowly. i have a tranny cooler installed and i thought that maybe it would help my tranny problems. but no.. please someone tell me whats wrong!!!!!!!!

Just to test your theory, get under your car and unplug the four prong connector and then drive it, if it goes away you have a lockup problem, if not get back with us. Good luck!!

i have noticed that it also seems to do it after the car has warmed up some. Im have a B&M 24,000 GVW tranny cooler mounted at the very front, but im wondering if the fluid is still getting pretty hot. I was gonna order a tranny temp guage once i got my tripple guage pod, but my order got canceled. so i think im gonna order one anyways and jsut hold it in my hand or something.....

Ill try the T\C plug thing tomorrow and get back to yall

ok, i pulled the plug, and its working a whole lot better.. but i havn't drivin it on the highway yet, or any speed past 35 MPH, but it usualy does it at those speeds.. so that means the problem lies in the ECU or the wiring to it??
also, when i pulled out the plug i noticed that even though it was a 4 prong connector, there were only Actualy 3 right?

EDIT: i got on the highway tonight. and without it connected, its a 100% better to drive.. BEFORE when it shifted into OD, it had a weird recoil type feeling, almost springy, its hard to describe, its like it shifted hard like usualy, but had some sort of kickback to it. and AFTER when i disconnected the wire, the OD shift was smooth. as were most of the other shifts, not much smoother, but a little.

thanks

heh maybe you shouldn't smoke crack when you drive :lala: just kiddin

Hope everything works out well for you I've had to wrestle with the transmission in my car and had the damn thing in the shop more times than i can remember. Completely new *reman* tranny 4 times and finally seems to hold up *knock on wood*

Seems like the 700r4's were junk untill later but your's is a later one so i don't know for sure. I just hope everything goes well for ya.

You can do the same test by lightly stepping on the brake pedal, just enough to light the lights. Now all this proves is that with the TCC unlocked, you don't feel the problem. It does not prove it is a TCC problem. What happens is that with the TCC engaged it is like a standard tranny and any engine miss is passed along through the driveline.

I would try it with a vacuum gauge and see if when it occurs if the gauge starts to bounce around. If it does then it is definately and engine problem. Could be a plug, wire, cap, fuel, etc. if not then it is a mechanical problem with the tranny but very possibly an actual TCC slip. Also make sure that it is not a situation where the L/U is being commanded on and off due to a coolant snesor out of whach, low coolant, etc.

hmm. how odd. i pluged the connector back in today to try the things recomended my transfixleo.. and when i took off the connector the 1st time, i noticed that it wasn't like other connectors like that, in that it wasn't a ***** to get it unconnected. and when i put in back on today, i had some trouble getting it pushed in enough for it to latch.

result: so far today it has ran perfectly, shifts seemed a little softer then normal, but i go on the highway and felt the T.C lock up at about 50 MPH and was fine the whole way home, at all speeds.. so i HOPING that it was just the connector was loose and was causing all my problems.. i hope.

thanks again transfixleo for the help, its nice to have exports on things like this and i appreciate all you, and pro built do..
