what is the best motor/tranny oil for drag racing?
i am a building 406 race engine ( approximately 575hp). i will be shifting this thing around 65- 6700 rpm...unfortunately though i just have stock re-worked crankshaft and eagle i -beam rods ( upgraded rod bolts)...with this kind of horsepower and not so good crank / rods i know i need to have the best oil possible for high rpm protection....i just need this motor to last me one season of drag racing ( going to change crank and rods in winter)....so far what i have looked at , REDLINE seems to be the best bet...but im also not sure which weight to use either.....and secondly what is the best tranny fluid..the car will have a transbrake and the oil will be getting hot...whats the toughest/ best tranny oil for drag racing....

Anything synthetic basically, everybidy has their favorites. Amsoil is real good, so is redline, so is royal purple.
Look also, into Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. I hear thats pretty good stuff.

I recommend you browse around this place:
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/
What's good about this site other than the wealth of information, is that most of the conclusions drawn are based on facts; tests, oil analysis, etc. instead of just someone's opinion or butt dyno.

i use valvoline racing 20/50.. its a bit pricey but works great.. i run a solid flat tappet and she gives me no problems when i shift at 6700.. going to be shifting at 7k this summer.. buy it at NAPA and its the "NOT STREET LEGAL" version.. if it doesnt say it on the bottle, its not the one..
