loos like the switch that is supposed to be on the release mechanism to allow the tonneau to be open. its like a safety so the 2 don't knock into each other.

That's exactly what it is. It's supposed to be attached to the bottom of the trunk pull down motor. Mine recently failed, so I bypassed the switch, which may be the case for yours also. I'm the original owner of my car, so I know well enough to not open the trunk & tonneau at the same time

It attaches to two of the 3 screws that attach the plastic motor housing to the frame. The latch assy presses on the plunger of that white switch to allow the tonneau release switch to power the tonneau release solenoids.
