Help with type of motor
I'm new to the Chevy motor world and need help. My father-in-law passed away and gave me the job of finishing his 1968 Chevy pickup. I'm not sure what motor this is...L98 LT1 or what. The code on the motor tells me it's 350 but it has aluminum heads.

Re: Help with type of motor
I put the new valve covers on. I have the computer everything code wise tells me it's from a 1992 firebird. But the aluminum heads doesn't make sense.

Re: Help with type of motor
Thats just a Tuned Port Injection (tpi) 350, the LT1 utilizes a front mount distributor and shaft driven water pump

Re: Help with type of motor
pull a valve cover off and find out what the casting number is on the heads... they could be Corvette L98 heads or they could be aftermarket..
if they are Corvette heads, it's possible that you have a ZZ4 crate motor: look on the pad in front of the passenger side head, by the water pump and post up what the stamped numbers are. that will at least tell you what the block was originally once you look it up, but if it says "ZZ4", then that's what it is: which is a good place to start, since they were rated at 355 horsepowers and close to 400 torques.
