Dave has these OEM boxes from time to time. Mine was like $85 + shipping from the San Diego, CA. area. Mine came with full instructions too.

There was a whole thread on here, so I wont take credit for it, but it works great. Ive put 5k miles on it, and have revved a little past 6k rpm. No delete pulleys, no cutting or anything. has anybody done this or even heard of doing this?? if so could i see some pics or tell me how to route the belt??

It must be nice not having to deal with CA. smog regulations. I plan on retiring out of CA. 20 more years though!

I'm not exactly sure if this is what km7152 meant, but I've heard of people running a shorter belt and going from the water pump AROUND the tensioner, and right back to the alternator.

You'd need to install the spring backwards so the tensioner took up the slack, but I've heard it works.

.....but then you have an entire serp. bracket for nothing but a tensioner. THAT would look like crap. ...but it'd work.

There is, and I installed an alternator where the A/C was, and cut that bracket down to look a lot better on the motor.

By the way...does anyone have any extra torx head bracket bolts for holding the brackets tot eh motor? I also need a serp crank pulley.

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

Hey this is to whom ever is wanting to take off both a/c and smog pump. I'm going to do this to my car. Go to www.marchperf.com/pg7.html then go to alternator brackets. All you have to do is buy one of these kits and then move your alternator down to where the smog pump was. The kit is fairly cheap between $53 to $82 depending on which kit you get. Just thought I might post this to help somebody out.

Thanks. By the way, I found some bolts so it's all good. Also, I bought a pair of chrome cases, and chrome fan and pulley kits, and rebuilt the alternators so they are now chrome.

I'll add, for those of you that have CS130 alternators...they can be modified for better air flow so they are not as prone to overheating.

I have not written it yet but I plan on a 'How To' paper on removing the black plastic disc built in the CS130 that actually restricts it's internals from getting good air flow.

Besides the "HIGH" dollar stuff, has anyone run just the water pump, power steering, and the alternator???? Am looking for a way to do that, kinda junkyard like.....Thanks, Tom

You could do that, but you would need a custom length belt...very short, and I believe there are places that do that. Contact Gates belts, and see if they do custom.

Also, you would need to mount your alt with an adjuster of sorts, to tension the belt, and you would need a standard rotation water pump.

Yeah the old style stuff was adjusted by moving the alternator...not sure why they changed to the new system...I am going to simplfy my setup as soon as I can.....BTW, I made me a heater delete bow out of sheet metal, it looks good...Will post pics soon....I can now get to my spark plugs easy.......It is starting to look like a motor, under my hood now......

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

dumb question. im actually in the middle of deleting my a/c and am going to order the a/c delete pulley. is there anything to look out for when i pull the a/c system, because i might have to leave the old a/c heater box in until i can buy a delete box. what about the sensors, anything negative about just leaving them disconnected or will i be fine without any of the a/c sensors plugged into anything?
its a '88 gta 5.7. thanks in advance

I would just make a cover for your box...i made one out of metal..Took a dremel tool cut my box off , and glued a cover on it...Works fine, and looks great....I can change my plugs SO EASY NOW....I left all the wiring there, have had no problems yet....Tom

When you finally pull the A/C box off the firewall, one of the attachments(nuts) is studded. The rest of them are screwed in from the front. P.M. me with any ?'s. I deleted mine for wieght reduction. I kept the original A/C box on the firewall without any problems electrically or with my heater. I still wanted a stock look, so I got the heater box GM offered on the 1LE. This is what it looks like when finished:

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

im debating on whether to just get some sheet metal and block off the enitire blower motor and a/c since its my summer car and i really dont use the defogs. i got the bolts for the a/c box off on the top, and i found that stud you had mentioned Daniel. now all i gotta do is figure out where to put the sensors that are just kinda dangeling freely.

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

im waiting on the a/c delete pulley from gm parts now. ive removed as much as i can save for the old a/c box. pulling the radiator and condensor was fun. found a cigarette butt, grasshopper and what appears to be a pamphlet from a local church. since the condensor is outta the way and the radiator was cleaned, i wonder what the coolant temp will be when i run the car. i was staying at 190 on the highway with everything in place.

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

whats wrong with just cutting the old belt, then wrapping it around where u need it to go, mark the measurment, then just bring it down to NAPA, (or some auto store) and just getting a belt that length, it took me a half hour to get the correct belt (i got rid of the smog pump and a/c)

eh, id just like to keep the original belt just to make things easier and not have an empty bracket up on top since i still have my smog pump, which is soon to be gone as well.

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

Great thread, I read over all the posts and maybe I just missed it but does removing the smog pump and replacing the pulley affect the ecm in anyway? Would I have to have a new chip put in or would it be ok with the stock chip?

Thanks!

1LE / AC Delete / Pulley info

sorry to dig up and old thread... again but my air compressor went today. i have been without a/c for sometime now anyways. it seems to be alot cheaper to just get the delete pulley than to go through the hastle of replacing the compressor and whatever else may be the problem. so my question is would ordering the ac delete pulley or "1LE" pulley be all i need or is something more required? mod etc?

It depends on how far you want to go. I replaced the pump with the delete pulley. Then I bought the delete heater box as well. I wanted it to look like a factory A/C delete, and still lose some weight.
Here's a shot of my delete fan box.

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

Ok, I have two part numbers that apparently work with the stock belt, 10129569 and 10186167. Which one is a direct replacement for the smog pump? If I read the info correct one is kind of a dead pulley that the belt slides on, like a tensioner, the other more of a direct fit for the smog pulley as it has grooves. I'd prefer the one thats a direct replacement with grooves.

Thanks!

This is the direct fit pulley with the grooves and stock belt length and routing:

I bought mine here IIRC:
http://www.moderndaymuscle.com/inc/sdetail/3509
(GM #10186167, Dayco #381501)

The other style (10129569) is smooth and the belt goes on the inside of the pulley as shown here:

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

not sure if anyone knows about s10 accessories work on serp belt f-bodies.

But anyways, i bought a used a/c delete pulley from a 89 4.3L s10 and then bought a belt for a 89 s10 due to they dove have a smog pump. Ill have to get pics but i got rid of all the BS on that side of the motor lol.

Go figure.....i get crap from friends that i own 3 s10's.....i noticed the 4.3L front drive accesorie brackets were the same

I HOPE this helps some people save a few bucks

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

It's been done

https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine

...just looks a little odd with the missing pulley. What some people do when they go this route is hack off the lower portion of the PS bracket - takes away that "something is missing" look

Re: 1LE / AC Delete / Smog Delete Pulley info

Never really made a difference its just a looks thing. I would do it again in a heartbeat just for the space it gives on the passenger side but then again once you learn how to remove everything you can uninstall and install everything in under 5 mins.

As far as the belt goes, my stock belt fit fine using the routing on this site, but on my friends TPI system he needed a different belt, we asked for the closest thing to 97' belt and got a 96.7 if I recall. Fit like a glove.

I never understood this justification for deleting a/c and emissions - what is everyone making room for? Surely EVERYone isn't running a turbocharger..... How often do you change plugs?
