For $70K get Firehawk #11 on ebay.
I think this car at most $30K on a good day when the wind is just right...
You can get sooo much more for $70K A Ferrari, a new Corvette as one previous poster declared. A Hellcat with 705HP, A new Z28 Camaro, or ZL1 Camaro is in that range... All of which would simply stomp all over this car in every area...
Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of 3rd gens, but really?!?

Guys, the prices will never increase on the thirdgens if people don't set a high price and get people seeing their potential value. I remember back in 2005, Leonard has his car on eBay with a buy it now for $50k. People scoffed then, but isn't the last thirdgen produced worth every penny he was asking?
I've said it before and it bears repeating. The value of the Buick Grand National has remained high because the owners have said that they will only ask high prices to maintain a higher expectation. If every 3rd gen owner that was trying to sell advertised a high price, then the mindset of everyone would be that they must be worth that. If you can't buy one for $2500 and the cheapest available is $10k, doesn't that change the expectation that you won't get a good 3rd gen for under $10k? And then that would raise the prices of the very nice or the rarer models. If we as a community continue to say that sellers are nuts for asking high prices and they can buy a Corvette for that price, then don't expect 3rd gens to ever get the "respect" from magazines, books, calendars or the public.

Scott - while I agree with the basic premise, you can buy a sub-100 mile C4 ZR1 Corvette for 20k less. ZR1 was actually something special rather than a set of brakes and a lack of A/C.

You have to dig through it a little, but the guy believe he was asking 46k for it.
I don't think people asking insane prices does anything to up the value of the average cars, it just makes them look insane.

Re: Get a Second Mortgage! $70K for 121 Mile 1LE!
I had some time to think about this, and although as a community we scoff at the fact that this guy is asking $70,000 the truth of the matter is that this is really good for third gens in general for owners especially.
This is classical psychological stuff that we have to remember that people are not always logical, we are sometimes emotional. I will explain...
Have you ever gotten a suggested donation card or letter in the mail? The really good ones will have several levels of donations, The highest recommended donation is $1,000, Level 2 is $100, level 3 is $50 and Level 4 is $10. Or something similar to it.
What this does is play tricks on your brain, At first you see the $1000 and think, wow that is a lot of money for a donation, but then you go to level 4 and realize that $10 really is not enough for what I believe in, so you consider Level 2 or Level 3, you ponder it over, and the majority of people that are willing to donate actually give $100. Congratulations, you just played into their hand. The truth is the entity looking for the donation did not expect you to make the $1000 donation, they really only wanted the $100 donation, (they are glad to take it mind you)
Same thing with asking prices of cars. When you have this outlandish asking price people stop, look and ponder on it. It is almost a shock to the brain, because it does not quite compute. After a moment they move on to the next car that is priced at a "Reasonable" $30,000, which is now 10 times more likely to sell than when the $30K car was the most expensive. Now it was not a few years ago that $30,000 was unheard of for a third gen, but I know that there has been a few that have sold for that. A 1LE Formula comes to mind.
I think I might just start listing my cars on craigslist for an unbelievable price of $50,000 for my yellow 87 Formula TPI, $25,000 for my wife's 87 Formula M5/TPI, and $45,000 for my one of 43 Formula 350 convertible. If someone bites, good, if not I did not lose anything but a little time.
Could you imagine what would happen if we got 30 or 40 people together and started asking outrageous prices? If anything It would only push up the values of third gens. It is a brilliant idea... If we did not sell them, who cares, that was not the point, the point was to push the values up.

Re: Get a Second Mortgage! $70K for 121 Mile 1LE!
There's something to be said about value, yes. However, fighting to raise the value of these cars (across the board) does have the possibility of making them harder to build. Currently, I can get a really nice thirdgen Z28 for 5k, running, driving, shoot-might even have a few mods already! That's because of how they're currently valued.
On the flip side, if I wanted to build a 1st gen Z28...well, I'd be LUCKY to get a complete body for 5k (that's just a rolling shell...no interior, engine, anything).
Idk, I personally like the value these cars currently hold, it makes parts cheaper and replacement cars cheaper (should one be needed).

One of the reasons that value is an issue is the cost of owning the car. Over the years, payments and repairs have a cost associated with them. Many of us would like to know that the value is now in line with what we've paid out. Nobody likes shelling out $10k for something that's only worth $3k.

Re: Get a Second Mortgage! $70K for 121 Mile 1LE!
But people do it every day. Take most new cars, especially luxury cars like a Cadillac . You purchase the car for $50,000 and drive it off the lot and you would have a hard time selling it for $40,000 10 min later.
That is the beauty of this. If we all started posting free ads ridiculous prices for our cars, Eventually what will happen is people with crappy cars will ask more, and slowly but surely creep up the value of the cars...
I can buy this really nice 70 miles 1LE for $70,000, or I can get this other nice 50K IROC-Z for $30,000 all of a sudden when comparing $70K to $30K the $30K looks like a bargain.

When it all goes down, just keep in mind that getting a cheap third gen may be in the rear view mirror... Get yours while they are cheep.
