Flame Red Headliner Material

Has anyone found a place to purchase flame red headliner material. The only thing left to do on my interior is replacing the headliner, and locally nobody has the color or anything close! Those of you who have flame red interior what did you do? Please help! Thanks in advance!

re: Flame Red Headliner Material

Nobody has had to replace a flame red headliner? For anybody who is looking for this material, I think I have found a place. Talked with SMS Fabrics in Oregon, they said they can dye that color and will be sending me a sample. Its a little pricey though at $69 per yard, and I was told I would need 3 yards for everything. Hope this helps someone out!

Classic handles Flame Red material Item no.829209. If I'm reading the catalogue correctly it includes the Headliner, Sail Panels and Sun Visers

Re: Flame Red Headliner Material

Checked with classic industries. There flame red is even darker than carmine red, he checked the box. The representative wasn't sure why it was even labeled flame red. Thanks for the help though!

Hi Mantaguy,

According to the Camaro White book, a 1987 IROC-Z had an option of red interior when the exterior colors were black, white, bright red, or dark red.

I did not find a mention of "flame red" as a color option in this particular book.

Moving to the Detroit guide, which is the industry standard for upholstery colors, I was able to find the red Z28 cloth, and when comparing the reproduction foam backed headliner cloth to these original swatches, the color was comparable, and what I would consider to be a good or suitable match. However, the reproduction cloth material may not be a perfect or exact match when it comes to color, weave or texture.

Interior codes for IROC in 1987 were:
72B = red - standard cloth
72C = red - custom cloth
72R = red - standard vinyl
722 = red - leather

If the original poster of this thread would like to get a sample swatch of the material, he can ask the agent to mail him a sample of the ACME foam backed cloth, color # C1611 red (or carmine red)

The part numbers in question for a 1987 IROC-Z red headliner are:
AFH19C1611 - non t-top headliner with abs plastic board
AFH12C1611 - t-top headliner with abs plastic board
K82111 - t-top sun shades
825408 - sail panels only
82141408 - non t-top sunvisors only
82141408T - t-top sunvisors only
829208 - headliner - scrape and cover set with matching visors, sail panels

The scrape and cover set does not come with a headliner board. It is for re-using old board.

Here are some images. The colors show up much brighter in these images than in person, due to the flash photography. But, nevertheless, you can see how the reproduction headliner foam backed material cloth (far right) is a good match compared to the factory Z-28 cloth found in the Detroit guide.

Re: Flame Red Headliner Material

I guess the OP has to check his RPO Codes for the proper color.I have Carmine(72C) in my 86TA and Classic was spot on with my new upholstery and headliner material.

Re: Flame Red Headliner Material

My 87 Iroc originally came with Carmine red interior, although I recently changed it to the brighter flame red. Still looking for the right material if anyone has any other ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Because it is a custom non-original color, you may be better off taking your car, or the headliner board itself to an upholstery shop and asking them to match the color. Another option is to purchase the foam backed fabric of your choice at your local fabric supplier, and scrape your old board and recover it yourself. Best of luck. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
