What DDMs did you use for the headlights? Projectors? Still have Hi/Low function?

I don't think that would be legal here, not having Hi/Low functions. They could assume it is stuck on Hi & fail it.

Curious to see how your night time shots come out. Never seen a successful conversion with just those housings. I've just see light scattering up high that can blind oncoming drivers.

I'm surprised, the yellow fogs look pretty good. And man, that thing is low. What suspension are you running? Looks great!

Similar setup to mine, though yours sits MUCH lower. I'm running Global West competition coils. Nice ride man.

Re: 89 GTA - 10k HID's Yellow Fogs..what do you think?

10k is way, way, way too hot to have good visibility.

Brightest, whitest, most effective HIDs are between 4300k-6000k.

I like the yellow! Looks good on a white car. I got an 89 GTA with 6k headlights and 8k HID fogs. I think they compliment eachother well.

Not trying to thread-jack but I thought I'd show what a 6K headlight and 8K foglight combo looks like. Sharing is caring afterall.

I like the setup on the black gta much better than the white. Not tryin to hate but I think it looks better when the lights match. With that said those lights look bright as hell.

How did you guys do the Fog Lights? Just a HID H1 bulb in a stock housing or what?

I think I'm the first one to do HID foglights on a trans am. I believe Mikey is just using normal bulbs with a yellow tint over them. And I had to modify the stock housing a bit. The metal shield in the housing has to be either removed or bent out of the way to make room for the slightly larger HID. H1 and h3 bulbs will fit though. I went with h3 on mine. After that you've just gotta find a secure spot to mount the ballast. The actual fog light housing needs to have the rear made a little larger by using a dremel tool. So that the bulb comfortably sits in place.

Ah. You have a HID bulb in the stock housing not really designed for HID light output. I assumed you had actually fit in a HID projector using the stock housing to mount the projector keeping it looking stock on the outside.

I pulled the metal shields out of mine years ago & still run the stock-type bulbs.

I'm working on one, but I'm trying to retain the stock housing mount bolt locations & such. I'm within lacking about 1/8" for room for the projector to fit, but am getting REALLY close to not being able to use the bottom long cross bolt. I don't wanna lose that or the upper screw.

I got the projector to fit by cutting out a good 1/3 of the back & still fits good under the stock lens but it also cut out most of the 2 bottom mounting holes for the cross-bolt, so I have to come up with a new mounting method. AND a god chunk of the mount bracket will have to be cut out for the back of the projector. I'm not keen on doing that so progress is at a stop for now.

And the stock lens is fluted which is obviously not good for a project beam behind Fabricating a new lens? How is the light output for the drivers sight, not just what a pic making it look bright looking at the car. How does it look out on the road from the drivers seat?

Yeah. Never can keep it straight in my head, despite me having several spare H3s.

Re: 89 GTA - 10k HID's Yellow Fogs..what do you think?

On my cheap non-projector set up, my foglights actually illuminate the road better than my headlights. Took me quite some time to aim correctly, but they really work nice. They've even got a cutoff line due to how I angled the metal shields. I'll try to have pics tomorrow. Makes me want to drive around at night with only my fogs on and the headlights left down. Yet I don't due to fear of being pulled over. That is illegal to drive with only my fogs on, even if they illuminate the road properly, because of some law that headlights must be a certain amount of inches from the ground, right? I heard that somewhere but I'm not sure.

Re: 89 GTA - 10k HID's Yellow Fogs..what do you think?

I just bought a 6k projector HID kit for my GTA and I noticed it comes with "built in city lights". Any idea what these "city lights" are? I'm assuming they're like daytime running lights and will be useless in a bird?

In Texas, definitely. State height to pass/be legal minimum is 24", maximum 54". I got pulled over one one when my headlights wouldn't come on or even up. If we had gotten them to turn on, I could have just manually put them up & been gone about my business. Fortunately I was following my parents to dinner that bight so they saw me get pulled over, they turned around & came back. Cop let me take it to the gas station 100 yards up the road. Left it there over night & got it the next day. They worked fine the next day & always have since, yet they wouldn't even light up that night. And I did nothing to fix them, they fixed themselves.

You mean the housings has a city light? The small separate bulb? My housings had those in a separate hole below the headlight bulb, but that part will end up getting cut out once I fit the projectors in. I know it will for sure on mine, because I'm on my 3rd version of getting a true Hi/Low projector HID to fit in a pop-up headlight for my Firebird.

Re: 89 GTA - 10k HID's Yellow Fogs..what do you think?

Yea the city lights are the most pointles things ever. It's one small little blue LED and with a bird, you'd never see it because you'd only notice it when your headlights are up, and when your headlights are up, the headlights would be on, so you wouldn't see the city light. Besides, it's far too blue of a light for me anyways. My cheap ebay projectors came with the city light as well. I just left it disconnected. I had it wired to go on with my headlights but it looked like poop.

You must have the same ones I ordered, mine are coming from KT Auto. Do yours light the road any better than the stock lights? And, do you ever get flashed because people think your highs are on?

I went with 6k because that's the whitest they had, I would have preferred 5k.

I got the black projectors from a different brand but I'm sure they're exactly the same. They are actually horrible, I wish I would've went a chrome clear lens to reflect the light better. I would say my output is similar to stock, but they scatter light like a bi**ch. I also went with a 6K headlight and I like the color. Almost like daylight, not perfectly white, but not super blue. They do look really cool though because my car is black.

Yeah it looks like they all come from the same manufacturer, just a different box. I looked at the black ones, but I think it actually stated on the listing that they were mostly for appearance, and the light output would be poor.

Hopefully I'll get my chrome ones installed within the next few weeks, so I'll post pics afterwards. I just hope they don't blind oncoming traffic.

I read that warning but couldn't imagine them being THAT much worse. Lol. As long as you aim them correctly you should be fine.

You need to make the back of your headlight housing bigger with a dremel for the new lenses to fit. Mikey did a post of how to install them.
