SC3G August Meet, Cruise, & Bonfire Sunday August 7, 2016 @ 2PM
Our August meet will be held at:
Ruby’s Diner
245 North Harbor Drive
Redondo Beach, CA 90277
(310) 376-7829
Ruby's Website
I have reserved the patio as well as a portion of the parking lot. We will receive 2 hours of free parking with a Ruby’s Diner validation. After the 2 hours is up, it is $2 for each additional hour. It shouldn't be a problem as we will be departing for the cruise and bonfire well before our time is up.
Our meet will be held outside on the patio portion of the diner so we can enjoy the ocean breeze and our cars as a backdrop.
The cruise route will be through the switchbacks of Palos Verdes, down through San Pedro, over the Vincent Thomas Bridge, through Downtown Long Beach, Belmont Shore, Seal Beach, and end with a bonfire at Huntington Beach.
As always our meetings are open to all members from all areas and 3rd Gen owners so please feel free to pop round and say hello!
As always if you have any additional questions or if there is any additional information I might be able to provide you with please don’t hesitate to ask.
See you there!

Hey Mike,
I'm suppose to be out of town with a NASCAR truck team I've been traveling with a few times this year so far, but negotiations are still not at the level I expect so I think I'm staying home. If so then Marlee and I will be there as always. Typical politics of racing.
A few pics to the current team- 2 drivers 2 trucks I am in charge of this time =Too much work for the money and headaches. Rich guys that can't drive.

Just a reminder. If you need any parts from TDS, order them, then leave me a note in the "comments" section that you want me to bring them to the cruise and I will bring them and save you on S&H.

2 Weeks Out!
If you are planning on attending our event and eating together as we always do. I'd like to ask that please be at the restaurant no later than 2:30 as this is the time I have told the restaurant that we will be ready to eat. In the past we have had people show up much later that everyone else and order food well after we've finished and left the dining area.
Which in turn has delayed our departure for the cruise and forced others to pay for parking because it has gone outside of the 2 free hours window. So in an effort to tighten things up a bit, here is our event schedule:
2:00-2:30 - Arrival & Vehicle Staging
2:30-3:30 - Lunch, Member Introductions & Upcoming Events
3:30-3:45 - 3rd Gen Social (Bullshit and Checkout Rides)
3:45-3:55 - Drivers Meeting (Cruise Overview and Route Information)
4:00 - Departure for Cruise
Thanks guys!

It;s been a labor of love that finally paid off. Congrats.
Remind me to tell you about the trans you sold us and we put into the '55 210 wagon- fricken hilarious wheel chirps 1st to second out of the old stovebolt straight 6. Lenny sold it a year ago to a guy that put an LS in that car. Ruined it in my opinion. That car was pristine with the original engine compartment.

Hi, I have a 91 Firebird with a passenger side headlight that sometimes flips up and sometimes needs "help". Lately it sometimes falls back down about a quarter of the way when driving too, im assuming when air hits it just right. Soooo, I'm not really sure what part it needs motor/ actuator or whether it can be repaired? I went to ur top-down site and read that the headlights actually have gears or that maybe its that bar looking piece (ya i'm a girl lol). Also my highbeam went out which doesn't make sense to me when it is a single headlamp not a seperate bulb, and i can also no longer just use "poser" pkng lights without the headlights flipping up but not illuminating. Switch or wiring issue? I hope not, stereo is professionally rewired to battery with anti-surge cable to accomodate stereo that's worth as much as the car , horn is on my center console and i don't know what else if anything they may have changed. I would appreciate any info u might have on what i need. I noticed u had some stuff for my year Firebird and know all about those tricky lights. i jinxed myself, right after i told someone i had never had a problem, i had a problem. Thanks for ur time.

Oh, and as I've already mentioned, if you order the kit and want me to bring it to the cruise I can. Just let me know. Or if you order it and have it shipped to you your headlights will be acting perfectly for the cruise and you'll have one less excuse why you can't participate in this fun event.

Next Week!
Those of you that will be joining us please remember to bring your FRS radios as they will be your best form of communication during the cruise. If you would like to join the caravan along the route, please have your FRS radios tuned to channel 3 so you can listen in as we will be announcing our location periodically in an effort to let people know where we are once the cruise is underway.
Those of you that will be joining us for the bonfire. Remember to bring whatever you would need for an evening on the beach. Chairs, blankets, coolers (nonalcoholic beverages only), snacks, and can't forget all the goodies to make s'mores.
Additionally, there is a $15 charge to park in beach lot that is adjacent to the fire pits. If you don't want to pay the $15 parking fee, there is metered parking available on PCH for $1.50hr on a first come basis
Thanks guys!

Here is a Ruby's cruise video. I think it was the first one we ever did. This is near Abalone cove as we were rounding PV towards the HB Bonfire destination.

I was going to put on my SuperRam over this weekend, but I'll put it off another week so I can join in. Knowing me, it won't go in as planned and take days and days.
Don, if you want to put it on, I won't complain.

I soooo need to come see you anyway Dyno Don! i just paid $2300 at Midas for front brakes and struts, MAP sensor, coolant temp sensor, throttle position sensor, and air/fuel induction service!! My car is still stalling and surging, RPMs all over the place and smells like gas. I know I bought the car with a vacuum leak and they are saying no.

Typical v6 bad EGR valve problem. I used to replace mine every year until I just ran a blockoff plate- and just put the new one on for smog checks then took it right back off so it stayed good.

I have permanent Montana tags, no smog checks, never have to re-register my car or go to DMV again as long as I maintain part time residence up there. In Flathead County if ur car is 10 yrs or older, u can pay an extra like $35, choose a license plate from like 300 designs, anything from Mickey Mouse to Aids Awareness, part of the money goes back to that particular cause or advertiser, and ur stickers say PERM!!

Re: SC3G August Meet, Cruise, & Bonfire Sunday August 7, 2016 @ 2PM
Ya, so i went back to Midas, told them the car was still stalling, getting like 10 mpg, same intermittent check engine light as soon as i left shop and acceleration so bad i had 4 cylinders beeping at me. I asked them if they had checked the EGR valve, they said no and i would need to leave it for a couple hours bcuz the EGR valve was "in the back". I had them drop me off at a local casino where i would be out of the 105 degree weather. That was when they first opened around 8:30 am. They finally called me back mid-afternoon and told me i had a clogged catalytic converter and they were knocking $55 off and it was going to be $475. I said whoa i just dont have that after paying $2300 last week and they left car outside and said it was too late in day to come pick me back up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it is in fact a clogged cat, shouldn't i be refunded for the fancy induction service? I mean what good is a fuel/air system cleanout if the EGR wasn't checked and the bad cat converter wasn't diagnosed"? I had a friend look under car and he said cat was visually bad. I had declined the new exhaust system for $1100 the first time. When i asked about EGR valve and how he determined it was the cat conv he said it gave him a code. He also had said about MAP and TPS although TPS was brand new. I am far from a mechanic but i can't help but feeling like just with the hours of reading forums and threads on here and google searches that they are either incompetent or unethical. There is no rotten egg smell and i have never had any smoke come from my exhaust system, white or black. It is very pitted out and does need replacing but i think if that has been the problem all along the other things were not neccessary? BTW they still say no vacuum leak when that was the only stated issue when i bought car and say EGR valve is clean. Am i justified in requesting a list of codes they read and at what point in job they were read? if they cleared codes in between? what specifically was bad with TPS and MAP? The only original code was for throttle but esch time i spoke to them on phone over the WEEK AND A HALF they originally had it they claim it was throwing a new code. It should have been a red flag when he had to look and make sure he had OBD1 reader. Any advice would be appreciated. I am thinking not a good idea to drive 2 hrs to beach if my car is gonna melt or blow up. I just want to get to the point that i have peace of mind driving it especially now that I have essentially paid for it twice (paid $3500 2 yrs ago, they were asking $3800, insurance co puts it at $4800). I have professionally reupholstered seats and a badass stereo system (Pioneer deck, Alpine booster bolted to rear wheel well inside lock compartment, subwoofer that fills "trunk") so was really hoping to see u guys and get some advice on sell? fix? engine swap? It kills me to keep putting money in a V6 with white paint. I want a black V8. This is not my first third gen. I had a mint 86 Sport Coupe in 96-98 with a 305 and an 84 Z28 in 2001. Since i have less than 2 days I hope someone will reply. Sorry so long winded!!

Alright guys, tomorrow is our meet!
Make sure and take the time to go through your cars. Look around your garages for spare/used radiator hoses, belts, water pumps, alternators, etc. I’ve been on several cruises where any one of these items would had someone back on the road in minutes instead of hours driving around looking for a parts house (usually in the middle of nowhere) that hopefully had the part.
If you are joining us for the cruise please take the time to check your fluid levels, radiators, heater control valves, tire pressure, brakes, belts & hoses, air dams, and spare tires.
If you know your vehicle is not mechanically sound enough for a driving event, please do not bring it. This club has been around for well over a decade so believe me when I say there will be plenty of other cruises you will be able to join us for in the future.
The more proactive we are as a club the less the chance of someone having a breakdown. Our club credo is to never leave anyone behind so if anyone has any concerns about being left on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere... Don't
…and last but certainly not least… As requested by the venue, I’m to inform you that there is absolutely NO consumption of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, fights, loud music, burnouts, weapons, and/or vending of any kind allowed.
Let’s make it another great event. See everyone tomorrow

Yep, fun cruise. When I got to Ruby's Diner I popped open my hood and discovered I had failed to install the oil fill cap after adding some oil. A quick trip to an O'Reilys Auto Parts and $4.35 (with tax) solved the problem. Evidently the hole is well baffled. No oil loss, the dip stick was still on full.
Thanks Mike for planning the cruise.

Please know that if you ever need chat, you're more than welcome to reach out to me. This club and having these events is no longer a priority for me which is why I've gone 8 months without hosting an event. My focus is exactly where it needs to be and not where others may want it. Car clubs come and go... People come and go... Family is forever. You've got it figured out Tom and my hat is off to you
