I've moved my 4th gen wheels to my '87 IROCZ

I have seen many posts on this issue, so I wanted to share my experience on this swap. I have two cases to discuss, A) '99 Camaro SS wheels 17x9.5 with 50mm offset, and B) aftermarket 4th gen wheels 17x9.5 with 54mm offset for the front and 18x10.5 with 58mm offset for the rear.

A) The 17x9.5 wheels are my factory wheels off of my '99 Camaro SS. These wheels have 50mm offset. These wheels will fit our 3rd gen cars if you purchase the correct adapters. For 1LE brake, you should purchase 1.7" adapters for the front, and 2.0" or 1.7" for the rear,, the 1.7" are best. I have P275/40R17 on all four positions. No rubbing and the car drives fine. If you have the standard disc brake system up front, purchase 2.0" adapters for the front.

B) I purchased black center Z06 type wheels for my '99 Camaro SS. However, I wanted to see if they would fit the IROCZ also. The front wheels are 17x9.5 with 54mm offset. These wheels with P275/40R17s fit great on the front with 1.7" adapters. The rear wheels are 18x10.5 with 58mm offset. Now here was a challenge. But it turned out great. With 2.0" adapters on the rear, the P295/35R18 BFG Drag Radials fit great, having just enough clearance. These new wheels look great on my IROCZ, so good that I am going to run them on the IROCZ for a couple months. The 295s look totally awesome when viewing the car from behind, and that is what most people see of my car, the rear end as it disappears!!!!

When it comes to wheel upgrade, us 3rd gen car owners have choices, some very good ones too!

BTW: I purchased my adapters from Skulte, I highly recommend them if you need adapters.

Good stuff man. I just got bought some 2.0" spacers for my SS 17x9.5s from a 96 SS and was hoping I'd done right. I have the 4th gen rear, so I don't need the spacers there. I plan to get a pair of 17x11s for the back at some points for 315/35-17s...long time in the future, lol
