vortec engine parts
i have searched and read about the vortec cams. 1998 is the longblock i have. block and heads are cracked due to overheat. cylinder #3. it only has 80,000 miles. the cam is there, the valvesprings and all. i have my 305 carbed right now. i am fixing to go back to tbi. 1st reason is an ls1 is in the future. i need the harness i just purchased which is not cut one iota. so .
1. i am going back tbi.
2. i know the cam will fit
3. from checking the valve springs will also work
4. also the timing set will work but i will buy new.
5. i know that i can also use the valve springs.
6. i have shortie headers and no smog along with magnaflow catback
7. how much tuning will be involved in getting it running.
1992 rs 305.

Re: vortec engine parts

Re: vortec engine parts
wow i thought at least one person had changed over these parts ( mine since free) and either got it running without a tune or needed one to turn the light off.

Re: vortec engine parts
It will probably run okay after swap since the stock vortec cam has only slightly more duration. The more duration and less LSA, the more tuning will need to be done.

Re: vortec engine parts
dont waste your time, its the heads you want.
if your vortec heads were good id say go for it,but just the cam and no tune, you will make the car slower.

Re: vortec engine parts
ok that is what i was wondering. the heads are cracked. darnit. i was thinking the cam would help out for lift and duration. figured since it was between the lt1 and l03 it would at least help a little.
