700R4 Issue
Hi guys
was just driving home from work and when it kicked down from 4th to 3rd, instead of it picking up third gear the tranny just lost all drive and the engine rev'd to 7k (305 TPI)
as soon as it done it I let off the throttle, then back on the throttle and it was ok for the next two miles,
I was then travelling through my town at about 10mph and I could hear a metallic noise like a rattle. Any ideas???
I think its going to be expensive

Maybe your converter let loose. If that happened its not good. Ill let someone else tell ya if you dont know. When I first read the beginning, it sounded like you lost pressure, so low oil or plugged filter or something. But the last of your symptoms makes me think converter.
edit- or maybe your flex plate broke?

What happens when you come to a complete stop, and with it in OD, you try to take off?

Re: 700R4 Issue
right ok guys, have driven it again today.
It clicks when moving it around at slow speed and is also clicking when cruising in thirs and 2nd etc.
It almost sounds like a tappet ticking but from the gearbox

Re: 700R4 Issue
A clicking sound reminds me of a toasted torque converter. Try to powerbrake in reverse and check if it works good
