84 disc brake rear end into 86 drum rear end...Need HELP
I am putting a 84 disc rear end from a z-28 H.O in to a z-28 with drum brakes. Will I need to change anything? Everything looks pretty much the same. Will i need to change the E-brake cables?? Will everything else line up ok? Thanks for any information.
thanks

Don't think you can use just the backing plates and calipers/mount. Disc has 4 bolts and drum has 3 (one large above wheel cylinder). I have swapped several rear end assemblies- Requires correct proportioning valve and new e-brake cables (take them off the donor car).

I am swapping the whole assembly...Where is the proportioning valve?? Can I use the same master cylinder or do I have to switch the master cylinders? I do have the donor car so the parts shouldn't be a problem.. The e-brake off the donor car didn't work when I got it. Could it be the cables? if it is the cables where can I get new ones? anything else i should know? Is the swap worth and is it difficult?
thanks for answering the questions..
thanks a lot

Hey, that's the axle I swapped in! Be prepared to rebuild the rear calipers with the GM recall kit, https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=78725 .
No, you don't need the master cylinder. Yes, you need a prop valve. The '84 valve won't bolt directly in to your '86 car; GM changed the port in which the front-to-rear brake line goes into the prop valve. Don't open up your prop valve at all. You could try making the '84 fit your '86, or you could get an '85-up prop valve from a disc brake equipped car.
You should buy new e-brake cables and brake hoses anyway.
