88 V6 Firebird rear main seal size?
Hey guys, I'm trying to buy the parts ahead of time so that my car doesn't stay torn down too long. Its my dd now.
Anyhow, I want to stop the rear oil leak. I am going to pull the trans out and swap it for a fresh one SOON (already have the trans standing by) so I'm just trying to scrape up all the necessary parts to get it all done as quickly as possible. No better time to replace the leaky, 221k mile rear seal right?
So, I'm looking up the part numbers online and I'm getting two different seals for my application. A smaller outer diameter (first design) and a larger outer diameter Viton super duper one (listed as second design.)
Does anyone have any info on when that change took place? Can I tell by my VIN? Its the original engine, but most people don't stock the first oil seal just the second design. I really don't want to have to pull it apart, measure, then find out which to order. I REALLY don't want to buy both seals and then have a leftover that I'll never use, but I'll do it if I have to I guess. I was just hoping someone, somewhere, had a service bulletin maybe that states something like, "after VIN xxxxxxxx267435 the engine uses the new design seal," or something along those lines.
Thanks for the help!

Hahahahahhahahhahah
As the title states, 1988 2.8V6 engine.
I'm running the T5 trans.
