2004 - Second Annual Midwest F-body Meet

Well, if you may remember, I hosted a F-Body gathering last June in Des Moines, IA. I had about 30 cars show up. It wasn't a huge show, but wasa success in my eyes and everyone there enjoyed it as much as I did.

I would like to do the same thing again this coming year and I wanted to know what all of you others think about this. Here are the pics from last June's meet:

http://www.geocities.com/vipervenemgts/2003meetpics

I hope to do it again around the same time, in June. Please reply if you are interested. I have 2 acres 7 miles south of Des Moines that I would like to have it at this coming year.

Last year we had it at Hardees and it was a huge problem to find a place that would let us do it w/o a certificate of insurance which costs a minimum of $550

If I host it at my house that won't be a problem. The meet would consist of a BBQ, playing football, playing pool, talking, hangin out, lookin/talkin about our cars, and/or whatever else we could do.

Let me know what you think would be a good thing to do at this meet if you think I should go through with it. Post what you think should be included in this meet that will make it worth your time to come. I know there are going to be the nationals probably on the east coast, and I know there is going to be a big meet about 45 min south of Chicago. Why not have one in Iowa again?

Post away!

Sounds good to me! Heck, my spray bomb paint job is looking really decent and may actually be worth showing off this time, LOL!

I wanted to attend last time Josh. But money and car issues prevented me from making the trip. Besides, Iowa isn't that far away and I LOVE driving my GTA (when it works that is).

This winter I'm rebuilding my transmission , I pray that I can do it right. But if I do, I shouldn't have to worry about playing rough with the car ever again. ^_^

I know for a fact I will be attending the Memorial bash thrown by LFN AT U. And I don't think I'm gonna bother with Nationals if its 13 hours away from me. Iowa is so much closer.

Well I hope all that came last time + some more can come this time. I'm still waiting to hear some good ideas of what to do as mentioned in my post.

As you know, right now my car has no nose on it. But I hope to have that taken care of by next spring. If not and my car runs good, I can just put the nose back on for the trip, I'd really like to come. Hopefully a lot of the Illinois people who came to Denny's last Memorial Day would think about it. If all the people from Denny's last year came to yours and all the IA people came to Denny's, we'd have 60 or more at each of the meets which would be pretty damn good.

Anyway, I'll have a more definate answer as the date approaches, but right now I'd sure like to go.

Few ideas...

One, organize something with the F-body organization in Iowa. I don't know the connections or anything, but there should be SOMETHING around here that's organized for these cars. It just seems like it was opened to other F-body years to late in the game to get any real attendants. Organizing it now will help the other groups get the word out to their members.

Event idea 1: Dyno meet.

Event idea 2: Track day at MAM.

Excuse my stupidity...but what is MAM? Also, is there a place in DM where they have a dyno?

I was listening to Lazer tonight and heard a commercial about that midstates machine shop and it said they have a chassis dyno. So that may be a possibility.

MAM = http://www.midamericamotorplex.com/

Road course (2.23 mile) and 1/8th mile drag strip. SCCA non members can run if you register for partial days IIRC, and the 1/8th mile runs quite a bit of test and tune. There's always Eddyville too if MAM's 1/8th is to busy...

Yes, Midstates is the first dyno within 3 hours of Des Moines. They didn't have their wide band sensor running yet when I went by this summer, and the Mustang club guys were having to tell them how to run the dyno itself!!! I hope they know their shiz by now... Maybe I'll give them a call and go check it out for a shakedown run on my home tuning...

This sounds like a great idea. I would like to meet some of you so that I can put faces to names and get a little more involved on the board.
I'm going to try to get at least one other 3rd Gen owner to follow me up there, too.

Hey Brad will you give Midstates a call sometime and get prices and see if they know how to run it by now. Ask if we can do like dyno day that day and see if they can give us a discount if we do like a group purchase or sumthing.

Are you guys game for a BBQ and meet at my house in my back yard? My lot is a little under 2 acres...here is a pic of my back yard, it goes all the way back to the pine trees by the guy thats mowing, it's about 300 feet to the back lot line and it's all grass and like 3 very small trees.

I planned on that

Does one of you want to make a flyer for next year and vote on it, or should we use the one from last year and change the writing?

Here is last years:

Des Moines, Iowa area. About 3.5-4 hours depending on time of day/speed/etc. You should have plenty of time before the meet if it's in June again...

Also, anyone up for karts at Sprocket's??? We could get a full event of karting with heats and main events if enough people come...

Date will probably be in June. Last year it was June 21st. I sitll need to contact (or have brad contact) MSM to see if they know how to use their dyno yet...

A dyno day, BBQ, and sprockets sounds awesome. I can call them and ask what it costs to rent the building for a couple hours.

People will need to pitch in money this year for food, drink, dyno day, and sprockets racing. I have wrote down everyone in this post as 'interested' in coming.

I am trying to get this stuff started ahead of time. Last year I seemed to have to rush every thing and things didnt go very smoothly on my part.

My house is exactly 7 miles south of the Des Moines International Airport on Highway 28. I will give you all detailed directions more towards the date of the meet.

Can't wait fellas....be sure to let your bosses know that you will be needing a day or 2 off in june....just so they know.

We have at least one person possibly coming from Lakeville, MN. Maybe you could make it a road trip with him. His name on the boards is Fbirdta878787.

Jeesh, I didn't even see that thread. That's pretty cheap as you said. Usually I hear around $50/car which I have heard is cheap! I'm hoping that the dyno day is what we can do. I compiled a list of all of the people last year and also all of the people from the other thread, and other people that I have seen from Iowa on the board and I have about 60 people so far. Nothing says that everyone is going to come though...

When you get a date in your head, all we have to do is contact the owner of Midstates to try to set it up. He'll check the schedule and see if anything else is booked and we'll go from there to try to choose a date that works.

Usually when you get a bunch of cars together you can rifle through them fairly quick. This wouldn't be a tune type of session where you can sit on the dyno for an hour, so it's cheaper for everyone. It's going to be more set up for bragging rights than anything else.

That would be cool...just have whoever wants do 1 pull...maybe 2. It will be really nice since I will be tossing on a supercharger this winter. Would be nice to see some actual numbers!

Josh if I'm in town or working in Kansas City. Chances are good that I would have 1 or both of my newer cars coming down. I can't promise anything yet though as i don't know where I will be working since I travel, way too much.
If I do sho I know I can drag down 3-4 other cars besides my two, wish it was three but my 68 won't be done at least for 3-4 years.
Hopefully I will have the 406, FAST, and supercharger in the IROC, don't know though, just depends on how much over time I get at work .
E-mail me when you get dates set and I will set them in my planner.

BTW. I'm not on the EIFBA board anymore, that group fell apart for the most part.

Fantastic. Dates should be set within a month or 2. I posted a thread there on EIFBA hoping it would get some attention....maybe it won't.
