MSD/Aftermarket Ignition HP Question?
I know some people are for and some against an aftermarket ignition. Does anybody have any real HP numbers as before and after. I want to know if they really help at all especially just with the mods I have or a stock engine. I know they really help on high HP engines and certain engines. How much do they really help as far as basically small mods? . Let me know if anybody has an answer. Thanks.

They can help send a more precisely timed ignition spark at high rpms, so that might be a little better for hp.
But for your average car they aren't going to do anything. Assuming your stock ignition is in good working order, that is.

After market ignitions on a near stock car will generally smooth the idle out and make for quicker starts. The most hp you will gain is 5 hp, unless your stock ingetion is going out. You can also gap the plugs a little more. I noticed thosed with mine. Didn't notice a power gain with the box, but the coil did help me pull a little further into the rpm range, past 4,500 with my old engine.

Hey,
I currently have the coil and box. I am debating of removing the box, I mainly use my car as a show car, but do like all the performance I can get. I didn't notice and increase with box, but I was using my butt to let me know. I haven't ran it before and after, just wanted to see if anybody else had. I am definatly going to use the coil. Thanks for the info.

I have a stock 2.8 v6 \ 5spd manual > and I definitely noticed a difference. Especially now that it's summer & air is running!

Here's my experience:
Installed MSD 6al
8.8mm wires
MSD cap and blaster 2 coil
My car now is harder to start and seems to run a lot hotter than before. No performance gains But than again I have a pretty stock 305 TBI. Once there on a heavy breathing 355, I am sure they will make a big difference once dialed in.

I added a MSD 6A to a stock coil on a modded 355 and didn't notice anything 'cept for the exhaust smelling a tad better.(no cat)

i dropped in the 6al and the butt dyno shows a diffrence, a tad more torque down low, up high, the revs have more ***** and way crisper throttle responce, like some one said, noticable diffrence with the a/c on, a smoother exhaust note and the best part, hitting the 3k rev limit at 2 in the morning down a residential street with an unmuffled v8, awsome.

Well, I just took mine out the box left the coil, hard starting problem gone away and a lot smoother idle. I am going to run dyno and see the results pretty soon.
