ss hood
i bought the ss hood from hawks and it doesnt have a hole in the front. i have a carbed engine so i was wondering if anyone else with this hood and carbed engine has pics of the hole or any fabrication they did to direct the cold air? thx
hope this board is ok.
also i was wondering what you do if the hood isnt completely level with the rest of the car on the side. like, if it sticks up a bit? is there something u can use to hold it down on the inside?

I have the ASCD SS hood and the hole is open in it on the front. Not sure about the hawks, nothing a dremel and alittle time couldn't change.
About the fiberglass hoods being straight my ASCD SS hood was TERRIBLE. I'm not bashing ASCD, just fiberglass hoods in general. Took several hours of body work (blocking, etc) and $$$ (not a body person so had to have it done by a local shop).
Now I'm trying to fab something to actually use the ram-air opening in the SSHood -

if you have a TPI and have an LT1 intake swap... you can use the 96-97 SS camaro intake(the one that sits on top of the plenum. the LT1 intake is about 2" lower than the TPI and with the new height of the SS hood, there is enough room, you'll need to fab an elbo or 2 to make it work.. but the air box is usable.
thats what im going to use when i get my hood.. i see no point in having a hood like that and not making it functional.. reminds me of the mustangs and their fake scoops.

Re: ss hood
1.Does the ss hood have a working cowl, or do you have to open it up?
2. Would it benifit if you opened up the cowl AND the "scoop"
3.what about the under hood light that some have where would you mount that to?

mine is low on the passenger side near the front of the car, and has a hump on the drivers side where the hood shock brackets bolt. it sticks up a good 1/4 inch above the fender, after NUMOROUS fender raising tricks.
all the work was preformed by a very competent body shop.
i was told the hood would have to be cut in 6 peices to make it show quality.
im happy with it overall. ive had it since 2000, and there isnt another hood id rather have.
id be very interested in your ram air on your hood, ive been thinking of doing the same thing.
on the hole, mine was very small. i used a dremel and opened it up to the max on the outer and inner shell.
my grill still pops in and holds just fine.

Re: ss hood
my ascd hood came with 3 holes in the front "scoop". My car is also carb'd and i would be very interested in a ram air setup as well, i was planning on making a square piece of sheetmetal alluminum, setting that on the carb then bolting my air cleaner on. Then taking some thick foam strips and outlining the square so it seals to the hood. Not sure how well it will work but thats my plan unless someone knows where you can buy something else
