patriot heads

i didn't see any info on these heads. feel free to add if i missed something. ok. i bought the partiot heads which are the vortec 185cc intake ports and 2.02/1.60 valve. i got them bare. the main problem with these heads, which when i called patriot they said it was the best part, is the intake ports measure 2.30" tall. and yes they accept pre-1986 intakes and vortec intakes. and center and perimeter bolt valve covers. if you decide to use a edelbrock 7101 intake here is what you need to do: the 7101 intake port is only 1.87" tall. you need to open the roof of the port to within about 1/8" of the top. then you need to elongate the bolt holes in the intake down slightly and use header style bolts with a felpro 1266 gasket. this will raise the intake up enough to match the ports. you can open the floor on the intake if you want but the roof is most important. i highly recommend using the edelbrock 7116 intake with a felpro 1255 gasket, no mods necessary. now thats only the beginning of the problems. if you want the heads to flow as they should you're going to have to blend the bowls. in stock form they are horrible. also the valve job on the heads are also shoddy. get a complete valve job done. also if you want to use dual valve springs you'll have to get the valve guide boss machined down. the seats are wide enough for 1.43" springs maybe more but i'm using 1.43". i got all the head work done with new valves and seals for $400. that's not including springs, retainers, locks, studs, and guide plates. i did the intake myself. now performance wise the heads are decent. i think the port volume is over 200cc now which is not great for my street car. i was able speed up the velocity of my intake airflow with a 600cfm vac sec carb and a spiral flow muffler. i recommend the dart iron eagle heads by far if you want a good iron head.

Re: patriot heads

so how much did it cost u totally?

i have the patriot 195cc heads on my HSR 383. i got them assembled for 860$ shipped to my door. they are the 195cc versons, have holes for centerbolt/perimiter valve covers, bolt up to vortec and chevy intakes, combustion chambers are partly CNC machined, the intakes/exhausts are hand PORTED, bowl blending etc, came with 2.02/1.6 stainless backcut valves and a 5 angle valve job, they have vitton seals, and i got the dual spring upgrade for up to .720" lift with a hyd roller cam, heads also came with rocker studs and valve guides.

when i got them i portmatched them to the felpro 1206s, cleaned up some minor casting in the intake runners, and smoothed out the exhaust ports (heads stayed assembled) due to the dual spring upgrade the valves are .200" taller which meant i need .100" longer pushrods. the heads bolted up to my ported and portmatched HSR with no problems and the ports matched up PERFECTLY!

when i got them they looked great, they perform great too. only issue i had with them was that i kept breaking rocker studs, this eventually concluded to bad new speed pro lifters which whipped out my new XFI280 cam.

right when the cam/lifters took a dump 3/4 of the way down the track the car ran 13.5 at 111mph with NOOOO traction (2.4s 60') and i spun through 1st and 2nd gear. car should be a solid 11s performer with traction. and its mild with only 9.8:1 compression. these heads make great power and they are a blast to drive on the street. thing pulls hard at 2000rpms even with a 2900stall.

so i only have postive things to say about performance and the patriot heads. and at 860$ shipped thats amazing!

Re: patriot heads

i have about the same invested in mine. with the bowl blending i'm sure i added a few CCs to the ports. on my 355 it was a little excessive but since i swapped the 750DP for the 600 vac sec its pulling really hard now. with the 750DP carb i spun the tires pretty good but hit 81mph in the 1/8. i think i can do better now with the 600.
