Yea I understand that and no i wouldn't want to live with that. But I see idiots all the time doing worse things while driving than just having bright lights.

Hi,
The guy who does my CAD work went to Africa for a couple months and gave the project to another guy who didn't do a very good and then dropped the ball. Bruce just got back from Africa last week and is now working on the project himself. It should be back on track soon. If you want me to keep your email address and let you know when it's ready for sale, you can go to www.martin-concepts.com and email me your information from the contact link.

Take your time... I'm still trying to save the money for a $400 HID Light kit for my Bronco.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
i post in so many of these thread about people wanting HIDs in a 3rd gen but want to do it with $50 or less. HIDs arent cheap, theres no way around that. putting a HID bulb in a crappy housing that wasnt designed to have one in it doesnt mean you get HID lighting. it just means you have a HID bulb in a housing.
not only does it produce light thats less effective than a good stock replacement sealed beam halogen (which cost less than housings and HID bulbs btw), its dangerous to other drivers on the road.

1982 -1989 Pontiac Firebird or Trans Am used 6052 (1982-1984 non-halogen) and H6054 which uses the same pins as a H4 so no splicing is necessary.
1990-1992 Pontiac Firebird or Trans Am used H4666 and you need to splice the harness or buy an adapter.

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
Thank you KITT1983! Apparently the Firebird did not use the H4656. I've never owned a Firebird, so off the top of my head, I couldn't tell ya. I just assumed since the the Camaro used them, so did the Firebird. But Yes, the HID kit will replace any H4656 without splicing or purchasing an adapter, unless you just want to buy the harness and projector from me and find your own bulb, ballast and wiring.
The prototypes are supposed to arrive today.

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
Interesting thread. I myself am not interested in replacing my stock headlights with some HIDs or anything else that doesn't fit with the rest of my Camaro, which by the way I purchased new in 1986. I don't consider myslef cheap either when it comes to my third gen. Much of it looks factory stock but I've done a lot of performance mods to make it go fast but not look corny. I'm an old car guy from way back and I personally don't get the fartcan muffler thing or putting on 22 inch rims on a 1980 Monte Carlo or gluing Buick port holes on a 1993 Chevy Blazer. But if thats what trips their trigger, then so be it. I don't bother them and they don't bother me.
As for the cheap thing, again I don't think I'm cheap. I spend dollars where they are needed like a new dual cooling fan set up. I recently priced out replacing my gauge cluster with an aftermarket one complete with Auto Meter gauges that topped the $900 mark. Sure it would be a very nice addition to my old Z28 but I have to decide if it is cost efficient to do this when $$$ is tight in my household. I would much rather spend nine hundred on go fast goodies any way.

Having real HID headlights isnt about "looking cool" is about safety and good illumination. Its just a bonus that they look cool imo.

now that is a properly done hid kit, you can see on the wall in the pic that the cut off doesnt shoot light too high so you dont blind on coming traffic.

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
i just did a retro on my tacoma...the lighting is def nice. the people complaining about the "too bright" hids are becuase they are done improper. just like any other mod they can be done right and done wrong. you guys must really hate the high end cars that come with these setups from the factory
the first pic is the angel eyes behind my shrouds
the second is lights on
the third pic i hadnt adjusted the lights yet
mine is a 35w system bought from www.theretrofitsource.com, well priced and good quality parts.
i went with a 6000k bulb which just has a hint of blue in it.. kind of wish i had went with the 5000k which is a pure white. dont know why anyone would go 10,000k but to each there own.
the kit i have is the Morimoto (ds2) kit, its pretty small and compact might be usable in a 4x6 housing.
103.00 for ebay black headlights
290.00 for kit
0.00 in labor
-----------
393.00 for true projector hids
"haters hate on" lol

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
On October 15th I gave the order to have a prototype made to ensure fit and compatibility of the mount package with the projector. The company that I'm using for the SLA prototypes usually has them made in under a week, but I haven't heard anything from them yet, but I'm assuming that they're on their way to me now. As long as there are no crazy unforseen uncompatibilities with the mount and projector, I'll have them start building the injection mold, which will take about 9 weeks. While they're building the injection mold, I'll have another company certifying the prototype. Overall, we're looking at about 9 weeks to be able to begin shipping orders. Once I get a solid date I'll start taking orders for them.
We ran into some difficulties in the design stage making it an air-tight assembly to prevent condensation on the inside of the lense and reflector, but that's all taken care of now.

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
Alright everyone, I finally got the prototypes and installed them in my Camaro. The before picture is not that great, but I'm sure all of you have seen the "before" in person. I've got the pictures on my webpage http://www.martin-concepts.com/homepage.html . The images are of the prototypes and the imitation chrome paint doesn't look nearly as good as the real chrome will look on the final product, so keep that in mind. I'm also not going to have the lens frosted on the final product, but tell what you think of the way it look. Thanks everyone!

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
that frosted glass kinda kills the looks. would look much better with a chrome or black shroud

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
I haven't started negotiating bulk prices for the projectors and wiring harnesses, but as I'm getting them right now, I'll have to charge around $500 for the full set. That price is the worst case scenario, but I know that I can get it down from that quite a bit.

Hey travis401, can you attach a link to the thread with the 'GTR tru-projector 4x6'? I dont know how, but I know you've seen it.

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
I found a new distributor and now it's looking like it will be between $100-$200, possibly less. My girlfriend says she may have a connection in China, so I'm gonna take a trip and see if I can get the parts for even less.

smartin44, you might want to take a look at this:http://www.tlg-store.com/product_p/6010003.htm, before you go.

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
I've seen those before and they're pretty expensive for something unlawful to use on the street. They're a single beam assembly, but the 2A1 is a dual beam assembly and work's in conjunction with the 1A1. The picture is not much of an improvement from the factory 2A1.

Not trying to be a jerk, just giving my opinion, but I don't like them. If somehow they could look good like the bmw headlight swaps that would be the way to go.

I put HID's in my 88 TA and for $90 on EBAY i got the 7"x6" housings w/ blue city lights and blue LED rim, the ballasts 8000k blue ice xenon gas HID bulbs as well as the normal H4 bulbs. So sorry i think that would never pan out business wise!

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
no, what you have is HID bulbs in a crappy housing thats going to throw light everywhere BUT the road. you got the ebay "projector" housings, not really projector housings. its just a 7x6 version of the same crappy housing thats been discussed at length in this thread already.
any housing without a cut off that you put HID bulbs in is going to give you WORSE lighting that stock replacements, for double the cost. and pose a danger to the other drivers on the road.
since youre new, id suggest doing a search on "ebay housings" and see all the horrible reviews people give them. the cheap ones are only good for buying and cutting up and mounting real projectors in them.

No what i have is a projector housing that is just as good if not better than anything more expensive. it is the type with the cut off that only projects light in the top half of the housing, is 3 x's brighter than stock and i may be new to posting but i know a few things about cars and products because i probably research any product i buy much longer than neccesary

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
http://stores.ebay.com/speedfactorygarage - This is the seller i purchased my projector housings & HID kit from, but it seems the exact one i got from him is no longer avail. upon a quick look, yet a more thorough look may turn up the contrary. i guess my main point in this post is that with avid research you most certainly can find an adequate if not exceptional projector housing bundled with an HID kit on EBAY for between $90 which is exactly what i paid for everything or at most $140. no way is any more than that worth it at all.

snap a couple of pic of your housing then. i HIGHLY doubt you managed to find a true projector housing with HID kit for that cheap. the only couple of placed that sell true projector housing want more than $100 for the housings alone.

Re: Do you want HID's in your Camaro?
it matters when someone else reads this, sees that he called them "real projectors" and goes and spends the money on them only to be disappointed. I'm just trying to keep others informed and not to waste their money.
besides Ive said it a million times. a HID bulb in a non HID housing is DANGEROUS. they throw very bright light into oncoming traffic and can cause accidents. I'm very adamant about this since i have eyes that are extremely sensitive to changes in light. i literally am temporarily blinded by cars like this and have nearly crashed on more than one occasion.
so next time someone flashes you for shining a light in thier eyes i want to you think about the possible consequences if that person had the same vision problems....
