Hedman long tube headers / S pipes / and cherry bomb extremes
Just thought i'd make a quick thread about my exhaust system, It probably won't be the most in depth review but i figured i'd share my experience for anyone curious about these parts or this setup!
First up,
♠Hedman Long Tube Headers
* 3" ball and socket collector
* 1 5/8" Primary
* uncoated
The headers when they got here have fair to good welds, with good flanges, and collectors. For what they cost they seem to be of pretty good quality. I stripped off the coating they come with for shipping and sprayed them with 2500*F heat paint. (for the record, this lasted about 5 months then cooked right off. Some may have different results.) As far as the primary size, I know theirs a lot of debate on how big you need them for different power levels, but IMO 1 5/8" is fine to 450 hp. Beyond that you may be costing some power from flow. But again, It depends on the application. different motors, and exhaust systems require different sizes. In my case i'm only spinning 6500 rpm and making right at 400 hp (flywheel), so they're sufficient. (Please don't jump all over me if you disagree! i know it's all been debated a million times.)
Fitment.
Here's where some difference in opinion seems to start.
In my particular case, They in no way, shape, or form, bolt right up.
I had to drop my starter, cut a small sliver off of my 700r4's bell housing, grind on the A arm perch, and hammer in my firewall a good amount. plus clearance the pipes slightly.
Here's my opinion on this though, MOTOR MOUNTS play the biggest part in the fitment. Mine were worn out, not to the point i had noticed at the time, but once i went to install my headers, It became obvious they were sitting a little lower than they should have been. throwing off the geometry. If you have fresh mounts, they will probably fit fairly well, with minor modifications. if you don't, Get the hammer and grinder out.
Passenger's side.
-cut a sliver off of the bell housing.
-dropped starter.
-minor hammer work.
-slipped it on from the bottom with car on ramps.
Driver's side.
-hammered the firewall in a good amount.
-got the grinder out for the top and side of the A-arm perch.
-hammered in primary pipe to make more room around the A arm and K member (stock K member.)
-slipped it in from the bottom.
All said and done, despite it being a pain.. Well worth the time.
♣Hedman S Pipes (2.5" X-Tensions)
I used the hedman S pipe's because on here that's what was said to be the best fit. Honestly, I agree completely. They actually tuck in pretty well! I'm running the factory cross member for my 700R4 and they run right up to it. the ground clearance is.. Acceptable.. To me anyway. It could be better but as many on here know routing dual exhaust is not the easiest thing to do because of this issue. I'd say i could run over a toppled soda can easy enough but that's about it. I may switch the the 3" s pipes soon because they effectively act as a secondary pipe and it's been proven that 3" at around 14" long makes the most power on the dyno. So i may try to eek that last bit out later on down the road.
♦Cherry Bomb Extremes. (single chamber)
I know people have mixed feelings on cherrybomb but I've always been a fan and think they build good quality products. As far as sound over the old setup (Worn out summit racing dual 12" glass packs.) I love it! the chamber'd design gets rid of the poppy sound and bad popping drone it had previously that made it sound a little ratty. They actually to my ear have a little bit of a flomaster tone when increasing in RPM but maintain the deep idle that i liked from the glass packs. They sound more "Modern". Not as quite as loud, But not much more quiet. (i'm running short dumps on them as of right now.)
As far as fitment, I have mine slipped right on to the S pipes and they clear reasonably well. Gets up and down on ramps fine, in and out of the driveway, and down country roads without dragging. so it's about as good as I expected from a cheap setup. (PS: Don't forget to turn the clamps sideways!)
Anyway, I really hope this helps some people out who may be considering These part's. I know when I was going to order them I read all over on this forum about them before I did!
Have a good one!

I like your setup informative post, I will probably do the same, in Texas though I need the pipes to come out from under the car. Do you have more under car pics you can post?
Also did you do your own hood or buy it somewhere?

Re: Hedman long tube headers / S pipes / and cherry bomb extremes
Thanks! And sadly no. None that are any different than the one I posted anyway. Ill probably snag more the next Time it's on ramps though. Anything in particular you want to see? And I built that hood, I needed something taller and that hood was wrinkled up from a deer so I figured why not try and make one. It isn't perfect but it gets the job done.

Re: Hedman long tube headers / S pipes / and cherry bomb extremes
For anyone curious I installed new motor mounts the other day and they do clear all obstructions now.

Re: Hedman long tube headers / S pipes / and cherry bomb extremes
I have a similar setup. Same headers, went with the 3" s-extensions and welded on some flanges. Had to cut a couple inches from the diagonal part of the extensions to make my ground clearance acceptable. Then for about a month I had purple hornies glasspacks off each one. Didn't sound bad, but i decided to go chambered anyway and got the Jegs/Summit flowmaster knockoffs. Sounds great.
